Inspired by The Hobbit and begun in 1937, The Lord of the Rings is a trilogy that J.R.R. Tolkien created to provide "the necessary background of history for Elvish tongues". From these academic aspirations was born one of the most popular and imaginative works in English literature.

The Fellowship of the Ring, the first volume in the trilogy, tells of the fateful power of the One Ring. It begins a magnificent tale of adventure that will plunge the members of the Fellowship of the Ring into a perilous quest and set the stage for the ultimate clash between the powers of good and evil.

In this splendid, unabridged audio production of Tolkien's great work, all the inhabitants of a magical universe – hobbits, elves, and wizards – step colorfully into life. Rob Inglis' narration has been praised as a masterpiece of audio.

I knew going in that it was going to be a chore to listen to, but the narrator made it so difficult to concentrate on the story. He added no emotion to the characters or scenes. I probably will not be listening to another of his recordings.

Great story, boring delivery

I can't help having flashbacks to the movie as I read "The Fellowship of the Ring." The audio book is so much better then the film. I cannot get enough with the singing of the reader. It's a bit annoying, but it's apart of the tale that I enjoy. I can't wait to finish off the series and share the trilogy to my family for many years to come. It's one of those books that never get dated. After reading The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring, I'm really looking forward to the next two additions in the trilogy to find out what they missed in the movies.

This is, by far, my favorite recording of The Fellowship of the Ring, and the one to which I return time and again. It is, one might say, The One Recording to rule them all.

An excellent (and unabridged) reading of THE classic fantasy tale.

overall this production was pretty good. I grew up reading these books until they fell apart so safe to say I love the story. The narrator was similar to your favorite grandpa reading you a story. His voice was pleasant overall, but he was lacking in actual voice acting skills. I had trouble distinguishing between characters frequently, and he did not bring intensity or real life to many of the scenes. He IS a very nice singer, which was certainly a plus given the number of songs. Overall decent, but I would check out other samples before committing to this rendition if great voice acting (ala Michael Page, Steven Pacey or Jim Dale) are critical to you

unabridged classic
