Publisher's summary

In What's Your Story? Using Stories to Ignite Performance and Be More Successful, author, entrepreneur, professor, and master story teller Craig Wortmann demonstrates the powerful impact stories have on the three most common performance challenges: leadership, strategic selling, and motivation. While the technique of telling stories is the oldest form of communication, it's also the one form that rises above the din of our information-saturated environment and delivers messages in a way that connects with people, bringing ideas to life and making them actionable and memorable.

Leaders of all levels will learn how to use the toolset developed in this book; the Win Book, Story Matrix and Story Coach to capture and tell the right stories at the right time to inspire their own performance and the performance of those around them. Through real-life scenarios, illustrations, quotations, tools and examples, Wortmann guides readers through the process of uncovering their stories.

Great Perspective on the Value of Storytelling

What I enjoyed most about this book was Craig's use of storytelling to make his point about the value of storytelling. Bravo!

An inspirational book

The book inspires one to two things:
1) Tell stories, wrap information in them,
2) Write down important events in an indexed diary.

In some cases the author goes waaaay too long to convince the reader, especially in the last part with mini novels, where I constantly wondered: "When is he going to come to the point of the story?"

Overall - a good book which helped me to design on of the most successful talks of my life.

Narrowcast to the corporate workplace.

As a songwriter and storyteller, I hoped this would cover the storytelling process, rather than life from a sales and marketing career perspective...Couldn't finish it.

I expected more

I didn’t really get what I wanted from this book.

I wanted to learn about what makes a great story, what are the essential elements of a gripping tale, how best to tell a story to drive the results you want.

Additionally, I wanted to learn about telling stories in today’s age of social media, YouTube, podcasts etc. How do we tell stories to create awareness, build brands and become influencers?

Unfortunately the author doesn’t touch any of this. Most of what the he mentions is common knowledge.

Would I recommend this book? Maybe to someone who doesn’t see the value of stories. But for someone who sees the value and wants to learn how, this is not for them.
