Lesserblood Lies

To protect her children from the despotic Trueblood, Merianne defied them by taking her girls and fleeing the planet. Even though Merianne's daughters are Lesserblood, they have the Talents. Thorne wants to help the girls control their emerging Talents, and he's intrigued by their mother. But just as Merianne finally accepts Thorne's help, two of her children are seized. To rescue the girls, Merianne and Thorne must risk death at the hands of the Trueblood, who will kill to protect their lies.

Nice Story, Weak Romance

This story was billed as a "sci fi romance", and from the sci fi and world building aspect it was done well. The explanations of the world were fairly easy to follow and made sense. The action part of the plot rolled through smoothly for me, and was exciting enough. The hero was properly heroic.

Strangely enough, what lost me wasn't the technicalities of the setting, or the strategies of the villains. It was the romance I didn't really get. There wasn't really a build up in the traditional sense. When the "in love" stage arrived, I was wondering how on earth they'd gotten to that point. Put succinctly, the author told me the two main characters were in love, but I didn't really "feel" that love.

With that huge hunk missing for me, it was still a decent book, and I don't regret listening to it. The narration and editing were done well.
