Because of the fixation on the Great War's opening moves and the great battles that followed over the course of the next four years, the endgame seems to come as a stunning anticlimax. a disappointment
I was expecting more. This is a story of a patriotic German soldier on the eastern front. Even for those who are not WWI buffs, this will add very little. Overall the story line is dull, the narration medium at best, and the horrors of the trenches (which, I would imagine, are the main reason people would be interested in the book) are hardly mentioned.
In summary, FUHGEDDABOUDIT!
