In an attempt to put her unhappy past behind her, Justine Jones throws herself into nursing school and planning her wedding to the man of her dreams. But something is off. Random details aren’t adding up…and is it her imagination, or are her friends and fiancé keeping secrets from her? And what’s with this strange sense of unease, and her odd new headaches?

Justine tries to stay upbeat as Midcity cowers under martial law, sleepwalking cannibals, and a mysterious rash of paranormal copycat violence, but her search for answers leads her into the most dangerous mind game yet.

Fantastic Trilogy Finale!

Head Rush is the last installment of the Disillusionist Trilogy. Justine is in the midst of preparing for her wedding to Otto Sanchez, the Mayor and most well connected high cap in MidCity. Packard is on the run from Otto, and her friends Shelby, Simon and Esz are acting mighty peculiar lately. Will Justine figure out what all the eye gestures and innuendos mean before she ties the knot?! Dun, dun, dun!

Last thing Justine remembers is that she witnessed Packard killing Avery, the man behind the brilliant invention of the high cap glasses, and Shelby's boyfriend. Shortly after, Otto proposes to Justine and also arranges for her to get accepted into nursing school. All is well in her world until she sees Packard. She doesn't know why she doesn't hate Packard the way she should for killing Avery. She has this nagging feeling of devotion to his friendship still. Packard pleads with Justine over his innocence, and tries to stop her from marrying Otto. As for Shelby, she vows to disembowel her lovers killer, but never refers to Packard as such, and that crazy Simon positions himself right smack in the middle of her wedding by winning a spot as one of her brides maids! I can't help but to think to myself that they are up to something, and it has to do with Otto.

The intensity of knowing the truth about what happens in the previous book, and waiting, watching as Justine slowly figures it out is painful! But she's smart, and she feels something is off between her and Otto. I love how Justine has made friends with Shelby, Simon, and the rest of the gang. I never saw them as becoming a family because they all were so separate from each other, but to see the bond between them now is heart warming. Knowing that this was the final book in the trilogy I had anticipated a big bang in the end and I was not disappointed. I loved that we got introduced to Justine's father finally. When Justine arrives at her fathers house to pick him up for the wedding, their exchange brought me to tears. If you think Justine is weird with her vein star paranoia, wait til you meet her father, he's a hoot! I loved this entire journey with Justine and I would highly recommend this trilogy, especially the audio version!

Narrator Review

Rebecca Wisocky, so I Googled her and guess what! She is that actress that I thought she sounded like! I love Rebecca and how she portrays Justine. She is truly amazing, and I would listen to anything she narrates from here on out!

It all ends now

The third and final book in the Disillusionist trilogy and you more or less know what's going to happen you just don't know how.

We know the villain. We know the faithful love interest that goes above and beyond for his lady love. We just need to know how it all unravels. Carolyn Crane crafted a fitting conclusion to this unique story.

Great Series

Great narration. I like to list this first as it can make or break a story.

Just finished this series and highly recommend all 3 stories. But definitely read/listen in order.

I really enjoy it when readers with similar reading interests list their favourite authors and series. It really helps me find new authors too follow. Mine are Charlaine Harris, Jeaniene Frost, Jennifer Estep, Faith Hunter, Molly Harper, Ilona Andrews, Kresley Cole, Deborah Harkness, Nalini Singh, Coreene Callahan, Stacia Kane, Kelly Medding and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Happy Reading

Great ending to a fun UF trilogy!

This long awaited conclusion brings a very satisfying ending to a helluva cliffhanger. The only drawback is the limited availability of the book. Due to a switch in publisher and other circumstances, the book was released to audio first and will be followed by e-book then print a few weeks after. Now, for audio lovers (like myself) that's not too big of a problem, however for several fans who won't listen to books...it is. I found the narrator to be very talented. She did a great job with characters and even though her voice wasn't at all how I imagined Justine's to be I could overlook it after a few chapters. Minor issues aside, the story is wonderful and worth the wait!

Excellent trilogy!

I would have given this series 5 stars, but only single stars popped up? The storyline was interesting, I didn't find myself wandering off in the middle of the books and I couldn't wait to start the next as soon as I finished books 1 & 2. they are exciting and have that feel good ending. These are completely worth the time and they're a freebie!

If you liked book 2, this book is for you

If you’ve heard books 1 & 2, then you’ve already made up your mind to get this book- especially if it’s still free in Audible Plus. So, I’ll use this review to recommend similar books.

📍If you liked the “urban fantasy meets super heroes & villains” vibe, consider The Sidekick Initiative; the Butter Fly King is comedy gold, although the mc can be a bit more of a self-pitying downer than Justine’s character.

📍If you liked the Buffy snark and supernatural mystery vibes, consider First Grave on the Right and at least the first couple of books in the Charlie Davidson series, as Charley settles into her Grim Reaper path, solving mysteries along the way.

📍If your favorite part was the romance with a side of mental disorder between a dangerous, accented man and a rather naive, but golden hearted gal, try the Spotless series, featuring a British assassin with OCD and a tech-savy geek. No magic in that last one, just OCD, danger, and fun. The Spotless series is especially for those who’d rather have skipped the sex scenes and broody parts.

📍Finally, did you love the colorful, adopted Disillusionist family that came together to take down the bad guy? Consider Burn For me, by author duo Ilona Andrews (don’t let the romance cover fool you; the series is more about urban fantasy and the kickass Baylor family, with less sex/romance than was found in this Disillussionist series). The Hidden Legacy series that starts with Burn For Me is a favorite of mine and has great writing and narration.
