Acerca de esta escucha

It's Change Year 25, a generation after high-energy technology died in a catastrophe most of the human race didn't survive. The children born after the Change are now starting to take center stage - and Whoever or Whatever was behind the Change itself may be taking a hand in their rivalries. An expedition has travelled to Nantucked across a strange and hostile continent to find some answers.

The narrator does accents, animal sounds and sound effec really well…even if his pronunciation is not the greatest. I’ve been listening since dies the fire and it’s never been great but pronouncing the s in viscount really bothered me lol.

I'm of a few minds about the progression of the Emberverse series. Love the details, the world, the progression... But with the turn of added magic (in a much more obvious way) has transformed the whole thing into a good vs evil play of larger than life figures culled from any number of other similar properties. Oddly I want to see it through, because I'm invested in the story at this point... But to know how it all started to where it is ending up... I would loved to see it play out the other way too.

Love this series, story's getting crazy though

not as much to advance the tale, but it fills in a bunch of gaps.

slow, but lots of necessary background

The author changed his writing style for this book. It is a collection of flashbacks that is both distracting confusing. It made finishing this book unenjoyable.

Not a fan of the style change.

I lived with chetes (shè tees) being called sheets, but I refuse the mispronounced viscount. VIE COUNT....

In the top 20%

Who was your favorite character and why?

There were several

What does Todd McLaren bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm used to McClaren. Changing narrators now would be jarring.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Would've liked to, but it takes a couple of days

Any additional comments?

I really don't understand all these negative reviews. Like David Weber, Stirling writes in great detail and many layers. If one allows oneself to become invested in the narrative, these books are very compelling. I will be listening to the entire series many times in the future.

I would recommend the book because the performance is well done.

If you’ve listened to books by S. M. Stirling before, how does this one compare?

Which character – as performed by Todd McLaren – was your favorite?

Can't think of one that stood out.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

A whole lotta flashbacks

Any additional comments?

I've liked most of the books in this series, but this one and "The Sunrise Lands" are just a whole bunch of flashbacks. I wish he had just written a separate book about what happened back in Oregon/Washington while Rudy and the gang were traveling East.

Good performance of an OK book
