another wonderful tale

I am completely hooked on this series, in love with the characters, fascinated by the world that Louise Penny has created. This novel also offers a lot of Quebec history and we spend time in one of my favorite places - Quebec City, particularly the old walled city. I enjoyed the interwoven plots -- 3 of them -- and the further development of both Gamache's and Beauvoir's characters. I was a bit frustrated with the extensive recap of a previous story -- that usually drives me crazy in series. Here, though there's enough that's new that it's not all repetition. Most of all, I love Penny's exploration of the human heart. So many wonderful insights about grief and loss and love and hate. I like that her characters have depth and complexity. But they're also reliable -- Ruth, Clara, Gabri, Myrna. How I wish I could sit with them all in front of the fire at the Bistro and eat some of that amazing food that Penny is always writing about. Her books make me hungry - for more! Can't wait to download the next one.

Mysteries and Quebec atmosphere

Bury Your Dead is a leisurely paced story, heavy with Quebec and Quebec City flavor, history, and lore. Several plots are threaded together around Chief Inspector Gamache including an historical episode which intrudes into the present. As I recall, there are now seven Inspector Gamache books. The second segment of the Bury Your Dead recording includes a revealing short interview with author Louise Penny. Narrator Cosham does a good job handling simultaneous dialogue amongst groups of characters. All in all, a very agreeable audible book choice.

I really like the series, but I have one caveat

I could not pass these books onto grand children or children, only because of some language in them.
The language F word does nothing to add to the story so I don’t know why the author feels the need to use it.
The Gamache character is akin to Poirot in Agatha Christie, who never needed foul words for any character.
Just my opinion.

Louise Penny successfully weaves three stories into one listen. It is delightful. I love the Three Pines Mysteries and this keeps the bar high. Great book

Wonderful discovery!

French-English, city-village, past-present -- simultaneous mysteries abound around! Masterful, beautiful, sensitive writing by Canadian author Louise Penny. As you can tell, I am very impressed. I downloaded the book because of its consistently top ratings, and it more than met my expectations. This work must be listened to with brain actively engaged. A treat. 'Bury Your Dead' is the first of Penny's books I've read, but I certainly will be hunting up the previous books in the series. My download included an interview with the author.
Warning, there are many flash-backs and fast scene changes, with which the reader could be more helpful to the listener.

I simply love this sereis and characters

The Inspector Gamache and Three Pines stories continue to be very engrossing. This one had a little different twist in that much of the story was told after a significant tradgedy that affected the main characters. You learn about the incident from their memories as they struggle to come to terms with the events. Of course during this story too they are investingating another murder but the back story is really the focus. It did not disappoint as you realy feel for the characters as they struggle through the events. I am now listening to the next installment.

I highly reccomned it.

Three stories in one book

The fascinating twists of the three stories was exhilarating; the pain of the characters in each storyline reached out to the listener and pulled me in. I love this series and I'd encourage everyone to start at the beginning. To get the full impact of these stories, it would be important for listeners to at least read The Brutal Telling first.

Another great addition to the Inspector Gamache series. I've read them all, but the audiobooks are so well done I'm listening to them each as well. The narrator is excellent and the sound quality is wonderful as well. Even if you've read the books I recommend listening to the audiobooks!!! Make sure you read/listen to the series in order though!

A thoughtful, beautifully written book.

I loved the characters and the setting. It's more than a book about murder, it's about love and loss and transition and acceptance. Highly recommended!
