Wealthy beyond most men's dreams, Cam has tired of society's petty restrictions and longs to return to his "uncivilized" Gypsy roots. When the delectable Amelia appeals to him for help, he intends to offer only friendship - but intentions are no match for the desire that blindsides them both. But can a man who spurns tradition be tempted into that most time-honored arrangement: marriage? Life in London society is about to get a whole lot hotter....

"The author's sensitivity to the prejudice endured by the Roma (Gypsies) adds a measure of grim reality that is creatively offset by Rohan's discussion of Roma beliefs and superstitions. Kleypas's effortless style makes for another sexy exploration of 19th-century passion and peccadilloes, riveting from start to finish." (Publishers Weekly)
"Abridged version - buyer beware"
This book was misrepresented. It is an abridged version although it was advertised as unabridged.
Amelia's back story is missing in this version.
I think Audiable should take responsibility for false advertising
"Missing part of the story. NOT unabridged"
Disappointed that part of Amelia's story line is missing, or has been altered concerning her former relationship with Christopher Frost.
"It's different from the book - but not abridged"
It's like the whole book is here because it's almost 10 hrs long, the only thing is the Christopher Frost in the book is Amelia's old fiance' and he pops up throughout the entire book and is a problem in the end. In this version Amelia meets Christopher Frost in the last hour of the narrated book and only knows him as one of her brother's friends. The story is a great story, but without it being read how it truly is written it comes up just a tad bit lacking. When you've read it you expect it, but those of you haven't read the book, it does not deter from the story and you will enjoy it very much. I just found it odd....
"The First and the Best of the Hathaways"
I adore Lisa Kleypas, my favorite romance author by far and this is one of the best of the best. The only one to top it in my opinion is: Dreaming of You...
The stories may be a little dark at times, but always there is a ray of laughter/love/hope that runs through it all that keeps you coming back for more and more.
"Love Cam & Amelia's Story"
I love Cam & Amelia's story, and was so happy that Cam got his own book. However, even though this says it's "unabridged," it seems like it is an abridged version, as it leaves out a whole sub-plot from the paperback version of the book involved Christopher Frost, and only puts him in as a minor character towards the end of the book. Otherwise, it's a wonderful book and I thoroughly enjoyed. Listed to it twice and read it twice!! I'll eventually do the same with the other Hathaway books. Leo and Cat's story is my second favorite, as it's fun to see how they progress through the books.
"Enjoyed it"
Really enjoyed this book. The chemistry between the two characters was electric. The narrator did a great job on Cam's voice. brought his dark sexy character to life.
"Couldn't stop listening"
I usually only listen to my audio books while at the gym but this one I couldn't stop and finished it in two days. I'm looking forward to book two which I downloaded today.
"ABRIDGED version of this book"
This is an ABRIDGED version of this book and not UNABRIDGED as advertised.
Very disappointing.
I read so I can write
"Lisa doesn't dissappoint"
I have not read the written version of this book, so my review is of the work I've heard.
It was typically Lisa Kleypas which means it was worth the time and money. It was well written and totally enjoyable. What can be said about the hero except wow, good enough to eat.
There were no weak characters in this story. Each of them has their place and holds it well.
Ms. Landor's performance was it's usual fantastic. She is one of only a handful of really outstanding narrators of historic romance novels.
"Great start to the Hathaway series!!"
I really enjoyed the story and characters in this first installment of the Hathaway series. I really love historical romance novels, and Lisa Kleypas is one of my favorites. Rosalyn Landor did an excellent job of narrating. This one is a keeper for sure.
