On a Halloween night, eight boys are led on an incredible journey into the past by the mysterious "spirit" Moundshroud. Riding a dark autumn wind from ancient Egypt to the land of the Celtic druids, from Mexico to a cathedral in Paris, they will witness the haunting beginnings of the holiday called Halloween.

Featuring the evocative prose and imagery of Ray Bradbury, the fine acting of the Colonial Radio Theater players, and atmospheric music and sound effects, this story will send shivers of delight (and spine-chilling terror) through listeners young and old, long after the last candle has died in your jack-o'-lantern.

I'm an adult male in my 30's just looking for a fun lids Halloween story to listen to in my free time. I think this was a movie cartoon? When I started listening, I realized it was not a book reading, which I was looking for. it almost seemed like audio from a cartoon movie. in the beginning there were to many gaps in between speaking filled up of sound effects. it was a turn off. but as the play or story progressed a story and adventure came out if it. and it became fun. Minus the complaints I had 4 out of 5 stars.

Its bad, then it turns good.

First saw the movie based off this book when I was young, then read the book. I love this story!

One of my childhood favorite books

I’d had high hopes for this book and was disappointed. I wish we’d have tried the regular audiobook instead. We (my 10 and 12yo and myself) had trouble following it. It seemed like every other word was “boys” and btw, Day of the Dead is largely a Mexican holiday, it’s not celebrated through South America as relayed by the story. This inaccuracy makes me question the other cultural details in the story.

Disappointing

I listened while I worked...which consists of telephone calls & being in triage in medical field...so didn't listen too hard...however the background noise was appreciated bc not too invasive ...& what I did hear was interesting . I love plays musicals drama..so the dramatization is definently a plus. as others said it is like gathering around a radio back in the day...look forward to actually listening to whole thing & to more audio books . I believe I am hooked ...great way to pass day at work not ,being to invasive & also absorbing information !!!!!!!

The only part I didn’t like about this was that it wasn’t narrated by Ray Bradbury like the movie was.

A Halloween Tradition

What made the experience of listening to The Halloween Tree (Dramatized) the most enjoyable?

As I listened to the story being told I could picture it in my mind. I read a review in which they stated this should have been a cartoon movie. As I listened I had to agree. Then as I listened more and the images the story brought to mind became more and more vivid, I realize it had! Cartoon Network made a movie out of it with Leonard Nemoy as Moundshroud and Ray Bradbury himself doing the narration. While this dramatization was not from that cartoon, it could easily have fit in with it.

This was reminiscent of early 1900's where families would sit around the radio to listen to the stories being told. Sound effects, music, song. all in all a GREAT production.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Halloween Tree (Dramatized)?

It is hard to pick a favorite moment. Each jump through time brought on an exciting moment as you hang on every word to find out where they were now and what the situations was going to be.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Twenty minutes into the story I had to stop it and gather my kids with me in the den and then I started it again. We all enjoyed it together as a family.

A well told story of frightful adventure.
