This bestselling legal thriller follows the charismatic defense attorney, Mickey Haller, as he takes on a slam-dunk court case involving a Beverly Hills playboy—but as it spirals into a nightmare, he finds himself in a fight for his life. Inspiration for the #1 Netflix series The Lincoln Lawyer.

Mickey Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, traveling between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers—they're all on Mickey Haller's client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence, it's about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it's even about justice.

A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney's dream, what they call a franchise case. And as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his career. Then someone close to him is murdered and Haller discovers that his search for innocence has brought him face-to-face with evil as pure as a flame. To escape without being burned, he must deploy every tactic, feint, and instinct in his arsenal—this time to save his own life.©2005 Hieronymus, Inc. He takes us through the city, shows us the best and the worst of it, maybe the best and worst of ourselves. The "justice" system is a convoluted and dark place to be trapped. Either innocent or guilty. It would be nice if the innocent are all free and the guilty all get their just dessrts, but sadly, that will never by. Connelly shows us how innocent the guilty can be and how poorly the system really works. I loved it.

This is the first Michael Connelly book that I have read but it will not be the last. If you like John Grisham books, you will love this. Great legal thriller that kept me riveted. I have never had much faith in the legal system because of how they treat people. Guilty until proven innocent. This shows in the side story. I enjoyed the drama and the emotions that are beautifully portrayed. The ending had me on pins and needles and I kept looking at the screen that showed the amount of time left. I kept thinking about how much had to happen in the time left and would it be tied up or would this be one of those books that left me hanging for a sequel. Happily it wasn’t.
The narrator, Adam Grupper, was great. I always knew which character I was listening to and the emotions of the situations came through. That is how I rate a great narrator. The narrator makes all the difference

If you like Grisham, you will love this book.

This departure into the legal world was an excellent choice for Mr. Connelly. His book is filled with accurate insights into the legal world along with some expertly contrived characters. It was very difficult to concentrate on my daily life while waiting to hear the next installment. Keep these coming!!

Just finished this book on a long road trip, and my entire family was hooked from the beginning (for a diverse family of seven, that's saying a lot). It's my first Connelly, and I'm definitely going for more. The book was intelligent, fast-paced and suspensful from beginning to end. The narrator is one of the best I've ever heard, excellent pace, intonation and characterization. I highly recommend it!

Absolutely Superb!
