Publisher's Summary

For Lieutenant Teri Howe, one of the best helicopter pilots in the naval reserves, nothing stands in the way of her passion for flying--until a past mistake surfaces, jeopardizing everything she's worked for. Senior Chief Stan Wolchonok has made a career of tackling difficult challenges so it's no surprise when he comes to Teri's aid, knowing that his personal code of honor--and perhaps his heart--will be at risk.

When a jet carrying an American senator's daughter is hijacked, Stan's unflinching determination and Teri's steadfast courage are put to the ultimate test. The rescue mission will be daring and dangerous. Yet somewhere between peril and resolution, the line between friends and lovers begins to blur, pushing both their lives over the edge...

Looking for trouble? Listen to another romantic thriller in the Troubleshooters series.

What the Critics Say

"A smart, thrilling keeper . . . This is one to recommend heartily to friends.... While heating tension and passion to the boiling point, Brockmann firmly squashes the cliche of military men with hearts of stone and imbues her SEALs with honest emotional courage." (Publishers Weekly)
"[Brockmann] takes a quantum leap forward with a novel that is richly textured, tenderly touching and utterly exciting. This is one book you will be unable to put down or forget!" (Romantic Times)

    "Pivotal Book of the Series!!!!"

I have really liked the style of the Suzanne Brockman action books, an exciting story with decent of character development. I have to admit that I have not read the stories in order. As I come to the earlier numbers in the Troubleshooters series there is much more character development. The books are worked in a way so there are little sniplets from the past that are blended to help you see how the character became the way they are now. As opposed to the later books where the characters already seem to know themselves and they decide to be with their loves/partner anyway and deal with the faults instead of the author helping the readers understanding of what made them that way through past flashbacks.

THIS book is referenced in just about EVERY other book that she writes. This is the story where Gina and Max first meet when she is a hostage on an airplane and he is the negotiator. It colors those characters throughout the rest of the series.(happens in first 1.5 hrs) Also this is the book where Sam meets Mary Lou, then leaves to work on the hostage situation... with Alyssa and Jules. So a lot of characters that you'll come to know and love, and who will have their own books later, do actions in this book that will haunt them through the series.

I wasn't a huge fan of the reader. I don't think that she does well with a large number of male voices and I wasn't a fan of her Danish accent either. She tells the story well, good pacing, you just can't tell all the men apart sometimes.

This is a book filled with holocaust survivors, FBI, CIA, NAVY SEALS, Hostage negotiators, Terrorists. - sounds intense right? well it's not - at all.

The plot is set in a middle east country where a plane was taken hostage by terrorists; SEALS and FBI are there for the rescue, but in this "great Novel" (please note the sarcasm here) everyone acts like they're at a sandles resort. They have dinner dates, sing karaoke, get drunk, go swimming in the hotel pool, and they act like eighth graders on who likes what boy and girl. in a word -
    embarrassing.

I like nonfiction, biographies and the occasional novel. BUT I can not pass up a good mystery, crime novel, or really great suspense plot. I am fascinated by an author's creative ability to interweave twists. Since Flynn's 'Gone Girl', the bar for a completely unseen game-changer is pretty high! Challenge extended :)

"Great book. Definite in the Series"
Would you listen to Over the Edge again? Why?

    Yes

What did you like best about this story?

This book bridges the series together. I started randomly in the Troubleshooters series. Most all of the events that have been references in the other 3 I've read were addressed in this book.

What about Laura Hicks’s performance did you like?

Laura adjusted her voice for the different charachters enough to differentiate but not too much to sound ridiculous.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It held my attention but it wasn't until the last 5 chapters that I really couldn't stop listening.

    "Awesome Story."

This is Stan's and Teri's story, with Sam, Max, Cowboy, Izzy and Jules, who we will be visiting in future stories. This story sets up a number of continuing stories. Stan and Teri's story is one of sweet compassion. Mr. Fixit Stan, might be good at fixing things for the men under his command, but the sweet darling knows nothing about the female species. I laughed out loud at his advice to the other helio pilot on dating, when he, himself was so tongue tied when around Teri. When Teri realized that Stan was basically shy when it came to her decided to take matters into her own hands....I cheered, because our bumbling friend would still be fumbling around. In other matters, I think they waited too long to get the hostage situation done, I realize that "WASHINGTON" was the hold up, and that senator needed a good slap for being such an idiot and almost blowing it. Reminds me of a few that we have in office now. All in all a very good book with some action, some sex, and a lot of future stories.

    "GOOD STORY, SO SO READER"

I HAVE READ MOST OF SUZANNE BROCKMANN'S EARLY WORKS AND ENJOY THEM VERY MUCH. HER EARLY WORKS ARE MORE STORY DRIVEN WITH FEWER POLITICAL RANTS. THE EARLY BOOKS ALSO PROVIDE THE HISTORY FOR LATER STORIES. THE WEAKNESS IN THE STORY IS THE NARRATOR. OF COURSE, PATRICK LAWLOR AND RENEE RAUDMANN (NARRATORS FROM HER LATER BOOKS) ARE SO GOOD THAT IT IS HARD TO COMPETE.

    "FANTASTIC! Absolutely suspenseful, action, romance"
Would you listen to Over the Edge again? Why?

Absolutely. While I enjoyed Teri's story (the main one) I'm equally enthralled with Max the negotiator - I look forward to his story in an upcoming installment (I hope!)

Who was your favorite character and why?

Max...even though he wasn't the main character-it was interesting to see this negotiator firm and ridged also as a human being with feelings.

What about Laura Hicks’s performance did you like?

She gave each character their own voice.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Spoiler: Max having to listen to terrorists 'terrorize' Gina.

    Any additional comments?

Sorry to give Teri & Stan the short end of the stick in the review-their story was sweet and complicated-I was more drawn to the side story of Max & Gina.

This is an action book with a lot of romance...buy/read knowing this. Adult language and some sex

    "hooked on this series"
What made the experience of listening to Over the Edge the most enjoyable?

The best thing about The Troubleshooter series is that all the books seem to stand well on their own so you can skip the ones with really bad narrators. I really enjoyed this story...the narrator not as much. It wasn't unbearable, just not great. Some of her male voices make these big tough men sound like little cartoon characters. She also pronounces some of the names differently than the others I've listened to so I find myself coreccting her in my head...but then I think that's common when listening to a series with different narrators.

I really enjoy Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooter series. The narrator on this one should have checked pronunciations with someone. Her voices and pronunciations are jarring

I do have to say that althought Teri and Wolchonock's story is really good (nice to hear that Stan is human), who kept me "at the edge" of my seat was Sam. And Sam caves...
