Now in paperback - a novel that "handily fulfills its promise of intrigue and romance."
(Publishers Weekly)

Determined to secure another London season without assistance from her new brother-in-law, Mary Alsworthy accepts a secret assignment from Lord Vaughn on behalf of the Pink Carnation. She must infiltrate the ranks of the dreaded French spy, the Black Tulip, before he and his master can stage their planned invasion of England. Every spy has a weakness and for the Black Tulip that weakness is beautiful black-haired women?his ?petals? of the Tulip. A natural at the art of seduction, Mary easily catches the attention of the French spy, but Lord Vaughn never anticipated that his own heart would be caught as well. Fighting their growing attraction, impediments from their past, and, of course, the French, Mary and Vaughn find themselves lost in a treacherous garden of lies.

And as our modern-day heroine, Eloise Kelly, digs deeper into England?s Napoleonic-era espionage, she becomes even more entwined with Colin Selwick, the descendant of her spy subjects.©2008 Lauren Willig; (P)2008 Penguin

A great read

I love Lauren Willig's writing style, the wit, the mischief, and great fun of her story lines. I was especially impressed that she could take two essentially unlikeable characters and make the reader sympathetic to them. I was totally rooting for them!

They might be self-interested, but i still liked them!

Ms. Willig did too good a job painting this older sister of Letty from the previous novel as a negative character. It was harder to cheer for her. I didn't really like her character or the selfish one of Lord Vaughn. I did enjoy the Love story but then both characters go back to being spiteful, malevolent snobs. No thanks

Two of the least likable characters match up. It is fun! Willig does a good job of building a humanizing romance between these two without either of them actually breaking character. And the spy/mysteries are getting a bit more sinister and exciting. The modern day storyline is moving along nicely too. I enjoy the double storyline carried throughout the series. Kate Reading's reading is perfect as always.

A new twist - Dispicable me!

One of my very fav authors and series. her work us full of Mystery, Intrigue, Romance ( well done ...NOT the bodice ripper genre) set in a well researched Historical setting. She has dome her homework and research well. As a armchair historian I appreciate this attention to the historic details.

Another AWESOME book by Lauren Willing!!
