Thirteen-year-old Rosie Beckett has never strayed further from her family's farm than a horse can pull a cart. Then a letter from her Aunt Euterpe arrives, and everything changes. It's 1893, the year of the World's Columbian Exposition-the "wonder of the age"-a.k.a. the Chicago World's Fair. Aunt Euterpe is inviting the Becketts to come for a visit and go to the fair! Award-winning author Richard Peck's fresh, realistic, and fun-filled writing truly brings the World's Fair-and Rosie and her family-to life.©2003 Richard Peck; (P)2009 Listening Library Family Life Growing Up & Facts of Life Historical Fiction Literature & Fiction Social & Life Skills Witty

Terrific story that educates while it entertains. Richard Peck transports us to 1893 with his vivid descriptions. The narrator is magical with her voices.

Takes me to the FAIR

The unexpected twists of this story kept me gasping and laughing. It doesn’t seem like a family visit to the Chicago World’s Fair would be a dramatic event, but Peck has built in such fascinating family members that I never wanted to look away. I did not see a single one of the twists coming. What a satisfying (and educational, too) read/listen!

How does/did Richard Peck do this, over and over!?
