Publisher's summary

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER Grisham returns to the courtroom and weaves a riveting tale of legal intrigue and corporate greed.

Grisham's sixth spellbinding novel of legal intrigue and corporate greed displays all of the intricate plotting, fast-paced action, humor, and suspense that have made him the most popular author of our time.

In his first courtroom thriller since A Time To Kill, John Grisham tells the story of a young man barely out of law school who finds himself taking on one of the most powerful, corrupt, and ruthless companies in America -- and exposing a complex, multibillion-dollar insurance scam. In his final semester of law school Rudy Baylor is required to provide free legal advice to a group of senior citizens, and it is there that he meets his first "clients," Dot and Buddy Black.

Their son, Donny Ray, is dying of leukemia, and their insurance company has flatly refused to pay for his medical treatments. While Rudy is at first skeptical, he soon realizes that the Blacks really have been shockingly mistreated by the huge company, and that he just may have stumbled upon one of the largest insurance frauds anyone's ever seen -- and one of the most lucrative and important cases in the history of civil litigation. The problem is, Rudy's flat broke, has no job, hasn't even passed the bar, and is about to go head-to-head with one of the best defense attorneys -- and powerful industries -- in America.

And Grisham is definitely a jack-of-all-trades: he’s written not only legal thrillers, but nonfiction, a series for kids, some humorous novels, and recently, a new mystery series outside of the legal thriller genre. To help you decide which Grisham gem to download next, we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

here's to the Truth!

The last two years in my life were spent battling for disability pay from my employer's insurance provider. It took so long it turned our lives upside down. Rainmaker, although not about disability payoff, still has an uncanny similarity to our experience. Funny thing, a short time ago we saw that real company on tv being interviewed with basically the same scandal of "Great Benefit" in the novel. Great telling, and sorry to tell you it can be the TRUTH

Loved it

I loved this book. The story is still relevant. It has intrigue, mystery, excitement and throughly captures the listener. The court room scenes are tremendous. I believe narration is award winning, making the book a success.

Another wonderful book...

What made the experience of listening to The Rainmaker the most enjoyable?

The narrator Frank Muller...he always brings the characters to life really well. Great story line too.

What did you like best about this story?

Getting an inside look into the legal system....glad I didn't go to law school.

What does Frank Muller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Well defined characters...I wasn't confused about anything in the story line. Frank was very good at this. Never gets anywhere near being mono leveled or boring when doing the characters.

great story but the narration has gliches

periodically the narration would repeat a couple of sentences without my touching the rewind buttons. It's not so frequent that it interferes with the story but it is noticable.

Good

It took a while to get into it but it was worth it once the plot developed more.

An Easy Read

A good story, an easy read, early Grisham, one of his best efforts. Impossible to read now without seeing Danny Divito as the paralawyer.

Excellent story bad editting

Excellent story and narration. Sadly editting is terrible with sentances repeating themselves and at some point in mid story a line letting me know the story continues on disc 8......
