Nell Dysart's in trouble. Her divorce is 18 months old, she's been sleepwalking through life, and the best job she can get is with a detective agency that specializes in relationship work. Determined to turn her life around, Nell flings herself into making McKenna Investigations a better place.
On day one, she uncovers an embezzler. On day two, she turns up bribery. On day three, she has sex with the wrong man. On day four, she steals a dog. On day five, her boss tries to fire her... And fails miserably. Because even Gabe McKenna has to admit that no matter how much he hates the confusion she's brought into his life, Nell shares his passion for making things right.
It's not long before they share another passion, one they can't ignore - even in the face of distractions like adultery, blackmail, arson, murder, and really bad business cards.

"Couldn't put it down!"
I'll agree that the plot was not quite your everyday normal life story, however the whole story was so intriguing that I kept my earphones on whenever I could to keep listening to the story! The imagery kept the whole thing fresh and clear in my mind's eye, the voices differed enough that you could keep the multitude of characters straight, and I kept crossing my fingers for everything to work out for Nell and the rest of the crew. I loved the china and how a collection could almost become a character in the story. And being a "first wife" I loved to see how Nell interacted with her ex-husband and his new wife!
"Great romance, good wit, and more than it seems"
First Sandra Burr is delightful. She differentiates between characters with ease, and listening to her work is refreshing. Her voice has a bubble of amusement which lets the listener understand how the characters can see humor in the most depressing situations without glossing over the dark parts. This is a story of three women past their youth, and discovering that after all the best is yet to be. But even though the plot is superficially about discovering old murder, hidden diamonds, and poisonous secrets, it is also about discovering the characters never stop growing and learning, and under the wit and humor are the way these three women, and the men they love adjust to their new understanding. Oh yes, the sex is great. Experience does count here. This isn't a social studies text book, its a great story neatly woven and fun. I really like this author. She just gets better.
"GREAT"
First Jennifer Crusie book for me but certainly not the last. What a very witty story, good narration,I found myself laughing throughout the book, humour from beginning to end. The women in this book are hilarious, good friends through thick and thin, and mostly in trouble.A thoroughly enjoyable book
"Surprise"
I bought this because it was on sale. I was truly surprise at how funny and enjoyable the story was and the characters were.
"Terrible Narrator"
I loved the story! It was fun, sexy and exciting but the narrator made the men sound like they were on helium and the women sounded way too "Leave It To Beaver" for me. The words the women were saying didn't match what they sounded like at all. Who wants to listen to June Cleaver use four letter words and have a temper?
"Brilliant Book"
I loved this book it is beautifully written and I enjoyed every moment of it! A brilliant listen
"Great Listen."
Very much enjoyed this book. Great story and really well read.
"Entertaining and Fun!"
You will laugh and enjoy this book. Strong female characters learning to live life through changes, using humor, practicality and intrique. The men (the good guys) are great too. The male and female dialogue is so entertaining, you will laugh out loud. The narrator does an excellent job transitioning voices. I appreciated the tea cup metaphors and differences in male and female interests....as well as the resourcefulness of this cast of characters. Helps to remind us to not take life so seriously! Narrator is 5 stars too. Just simply a fun escape!
I am a wife of 1, mother of 5, grandmother of 13, gt.grandmother of 2, manager of a senior apt. complex, AND an avid audio book listener!
