From New York Times best-selling author Terry Brooks comes the final thrilling novel in a brand-new trilogy: The Dark Legacy of Shannara!

For centuries the Four Lands enjoyed freedom from its demon-haunted past, protected by magic-enhanced borders from the dark dimension known as the Forbidding and the profound evil imprisoned there. But now the unthinkable is happening: The ancient wards securing the barrier between order and mayhem have begun to erode - and generations of bloodthirsty, monstrous creatures, fueled by a rage thousands of years in the making, are poised to spill forth, seeking revenge for what was done to them.

Young Elf Arling Elessedil possesses the enchanted means to close the breach and once more seal the denizens of the Forbidding in their prison. But when she falls into the hands of the powerful Federation’s diabolical Prime Minister, her efforts may be doomed. Only her determined sister, Aphen, who bears the Elfstones and commands their magic, has any hope of saving Arling from the hideous fate her captor has in store. Meanwhile, Railing Ohmsford - desperate to save his imprisoned brother - seeks to discover if his famed but ill-fated ancestor Grianne is still alive and willing to help him save the world... no matter the odds or the consequences.

Once you start the climactic finale can't come soon enough. I never put it down. I hope there is more to come from this world of Terry Brooks.

Enthralling!

Probably found the second in the trio more compelling and tension filled as it set the scene for third instalment. That said this was a great final book and all the major threads get tied off neatly. Terrific characters including the Witch Waith.

Enjoyable

I’m so tired of Terry Brooks inconsistency when writing, if I didn’t know he was down to his last 7 books I wouldn’t read another one.

Terry how dumb do you think your audience is?

Think about it.

Narrator was Great book not so much

Brooks spins a wonderfully drawn out tale over this trilogy, and this last book was the ending I expected. Light on the typical stuff like relationships and commonsense for the characters, but that's what defines them sometimes. The narrator gets quiet at times and it's easy to miss what she says, but she did a wonderful job with the character voices and giving emotion to them. Overall, it was worth the listen.

Another notch in the belt

I loved finding out more about the other elfstones at long last! 🥰 looking forward to finding out more in the future books too.

I liked the way this booked finished. I was hoping this one would continue or start up a few years later.

Best book out of the series

Any additional comments?

As always, Brooks weaves a good tale and the characters were attractive. My problem was with the narration. The narrator, herself, was excellent, but early in the series there was some annoying comb filtering going on. It sounded like it was recorded in a closet. That got better but taking its place was a lot of very irritating semblance. It seemed to get worse and at one point during the third book, I found myself wishing to be done with the book just so I didn't have to listen to the sssss's. At times, it was like fingernails on a chalk board. I can understand the comb filtering as that would be hard to fix in post, but haven't the engineers at Audible heard of a De-esser? That problem could have been fixed very easily.

Solid story but with audio problems
