About this listen

On the eve of a secret military operation, an assassin's bullet strikes President Seth Jerrison. He is rushed to the hospital, where surgeons struggle to save his life. At the same hospital, researcher Dr. Ranjip Singh is experimenting with a device that can erase traumatic memories.

Then a terrorist bomb detonates. In the operating room, the president suffers cardiac arrest. He has a near-death experience - but the memories that flash through Jerrison's mind are not his memories.

It quickly becomes clear that the electromagnetic pulse generated by the bomb amplified and scrambled Dr. Singh's equipment, allowing a random group of people to access one another's minds.

And now one of those people has access to the president's memories - including classified information regarding the upcoming military mission, which, if revealed, could cost countless lives. But the task of determining who has switched memories with whom is a daunting one - particularly when some of the people involved have reason to lie....

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I really couldn't wait until it was over, the same ramblings on about the same thing over and over. Never really gripped my attention. I wish I could get my credit back.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The performance was very good, and yes I would listen to him again. Hopefully, with a better story.

Do you think Triggers needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, please, no.

Started out interesting, then grew tiresome

Someone else called this book a "spiritual thriller" and I would agree, as that phrase put me in mind of Dean Koontz' Odd Thomas books, and this has some similarities in terms of "feel". I liked the premise of the book; I thought it was well written and read with care. There are some unbelievable parts, but that's what it is to read this kind of book--of course, everything in it couldn't really happen. That's what some kinds of fiction are like. I would recommend this wholeheartedly.

Great Book; Well Read

I liked it Nothing earth shattering but a good story. Well read Characters you care about. Unusual ending but satisfying.

A spiritual thriller

I've read virtually everything Robert Sawyer has ever written. They usually range from excellent (Counting God) to pretty damned good (Hominid series). This is just average by normal standards. By Robert J Sawyer standard, I think it's below average. The narration is very good, the story is moderately interesting, and deals with mostly memory. Some aspects of the story are cool, but just not enough to carry the whole thing.

Not his best stuff by far.

It is unique as I have come to expect from Robert Sawyer

When the older woman who was reading the President sent him a letter inviting him to do the right thing.

No, although there are humanist elements that are funny and sad.

Any additional comments?

Very good read and the audible version was excellent.

Triggers was very entertaining

This is an innovative and original story, well written and great fun from beginning to end. I think of this as an "airplane book"; one that is engaging, entertaining, and just perfect to pass the time on a long flight.

Nicely read by Jeff Woodman, but I wonder if someone with a bit more menace in his voice might have added another dimension to the experience.

All in all, you can't miss with this one. Pure entertainment.

Fluffy but great fun
