Publisher's Summary

After her good friend Godwin has a nasty quarrel with John, his significant other, full-time needlework shop owner and part-time sleuth Betsy Devonshire finds herself with a roommate. Betsy doesn't mind having company, though Godwin is restless and unhappy over the sudden break-up. But sadness turns to grief when Betsy and Godwin discover John dead in his home, and Godwin is arrested for the murder. Betsy knows her friend couldn't be the killer, and sets out to prove it. What she learns is that John had a cat's cradle of secret dealings that had made him a bundle of money, and a lot of enemies. Now, Betsy has to untangle a web of lies if she's going to save Godwin--and find the murderer.

    "Pleasure to listen to"

This series is a new one for me. This was easy listening. It also had you hooked until the end. I could not guess whodunit. I can't wait until more of her books are on audible.

    "Entertaining"

This was pretty good light read. I wish the entire series was on Audible. I gave it 4 and not 5 stars because while it is entertaining I figured out the killer before it was revealed. I gave it 4 stars because I liked the characters and the flow of the story. I will buy the next few books that are available on Audible.

I can find a book to love in any genre -- a beautifully written classic, an interesting mystery or sci-fi, a trashy romance. Bring it!

    "Not enough going on..."

STORY - This is a light-hearted mystery about a young gay man (Godwin or "Goddy") accused of murdering his ex-boyfriend. Goddy works in a needlework shop called Crewel World, which is owned by Betsy, the main character. Betsy is an ameteur sleuth, and she sets upon proving Goddy's innocence. The story is obviously meant to be a simple small town whodunnit. IMHO, the mystery is not particularly interesting or complicated, there's no humor...the whole story is just "fluff." Also, I just never particularly cared for Goddy. His being gay could have added a clever dimension to the story, but he was just whiney.

NARRATOR - The narrator does a pretty good job with most of the characters; however, I thought Goddy sounded like a matronly older woman rather than a 20-something gay male.

BOTTOM LINE - This book is basically a waste of time, and I won't listen to any more in this series.

    Any additional comments?

WHILE I LOVE MONICA FERRIS AND HER WRITING, I AM SORRY, THAT GAUDIE HAS TO BE GAY TO BE INTERESTING. I LOVE GAUDIE, BUT OBJECT TO THE LIFESTYLE.

"Really great book. Ditto the previous books."

All I can say is, read my reviews on the preceding books. I am sure the rest of the books will get the same great raves.

    "Different Style..."

The storyline was good overall. I found the the book difficult to follow at times as the writing style was much different than her previous books.
