Late one night Beryl Madison turns off her burglar alarm, puts down her gun and opens her door to the man who has stalked and terrorized her for months. Hours later, her brutally mutilated body lies in the city morgue. As Scarpetta begins searching for the microscopic clues to the killer’s identity, one question keeps nagging her: why did Beryl let him in?

"Worst Performance EVER!"
I love Patricia Cornwell. I have read many of her books and have enjoyed them a lot. I would never buy another audio book narrated by CJ Critt.
I do truly enjoy the Kay Scarpetta books
She read so slowly and with an awkward cadence. She took loud breaths every few words. It was so distracting and awful that I can't really even like the book as much as I could have if I had read it.
Good story. Good story line.

"Worst narrorator ever!"
I will never purchase anything again that has been narrated by CJ Critt. It sounds like she is sucking on oxygen before every sentence. I couldn't even make it through 1 chapter of the book it was so annoying. And I love Patricia Cornwell.
Please listen to the narration. The women needs a sharp intake of air before every sentence. It is torture to listen to her.
I wish I could have made it through- a big fan of Cornwell.
Would love to get my money back for this download.
"Annoying narrator"
If the narrator was better!
Narrator kept breathing like she was gasping for air and she sounded like she had a stuffy nose!!!
Someone should give the narrator an oxygen mask and a nasal spray!!!!
"Too slow....."
The performance/reading of the story takes away from the story line - it is slow and you can hear the intake of breath when the narrator is reading the story.
I haven't had the experience with another book where the narration is so slow.
Too long of pauses, sometimes I think my Kindle shut off, intake of breath very apparent when reading. And the overall reading is way too slow. As a result, the story line gets a bit boring.
Not really.
The performance of the book makes the story, even when it is a good story line, if the performance isn't great, it takes away from the book.

"story was a good Cornwell. Narrator was annoying"
The story was good, average Cornwell but the narrator had the annoying habit of taking a deep audible breath before every sentence. I couldn't concentrate on the story, I kept waiting for the breath in-take!

"Riveting!"
I really loved this as a follow up to a great start in this series. This second book was probably even better than the first, I was really intrigued by the story and couldn't stop listening. When I first started to listen to the series, after reading the first couple in print, I was a bit annoyed by CJ Critt's narration but I have realized that this is the voice the author heard when writing the books (I was the one who had it wrong). The book was detailed, but not so much that you got bogged down in the details of the crime. It was well written, and kept me interested all the way through. I loved the development of the recurring characters and the depth of the one's who are just for this book. I know that this series has been going on for a while and I am just reading something that came out a long time ago, but the series is fairly new to me and I love it! I have quite varied interests in my reading so about every 3rd or 4th book I go back to this and the Bones series and I love them both. I always look forward to reading the next book in the Scarpetta series.
"Great listen!"

Kay Scarpetta
It was comfortable. It was easy to put when necessary but it kept calling me back.
Just an enjoyable book.
"Freaky killers"
I like this audio version much better then the previous version that I rented from the library. Kay Scarpetta is suppose to be the main voice that you here, so at least this one has an American accent and not a British one.
"I forgot it quickly"
This book left me not remembering anything after about a week. Doesn't that mean something? Critt is a great narrator, however.
"Scarpetta Again!"
Another great Scarpetta book. Fun read/listen with twists of plot that engage the reader.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................
