"Stephanie Plum is back, smart-mouthed, swaggering and saucy as ever....Top-notch fun." (Booklist)
"Narrator was great!"
Apparently, unlike many of the other reviews, I like the narration by C. J. Critt. Of all the Plum novels I have listened to, I think Critt is the best!
I really enjoyed listening to "Four to Score" and I think it's is a wonderful book, in fact it was the first book of the series that I listened to so many years ago. I really love all of the unforgettable characters, especially Grandma Mazur! I believe you will really enjoy this book and get a laugh or twelve!
"Glad to see the 4th book unabridged, but..."
I am a huge fan of Janet Evanovich, especially loving the Plum series, and although I like to actually read a book, my vision (or lack thereof) has made me rely on audio books. I have been having a difficult time finding the first six in the Plum series in an UNABRIDGED format, because as far as I am concerned, abridgment should be outlawed. Really, why not offer the Author the respect of reading every word written? This is not Audible's fault, they can only offer what is there to offer and when an unabridged version of audio becomes available Audible is very good at making sure we have access to it. So, when I found that they were offering the 4th book in the Plum series in an unabridged format I was so excited I bought and downloaded immediately.
I have become accustomed (even spoiled) to the EXCELLENT reading of Lorelei King and was dismayed with the HORRIBLE reading of CJ Critt, which unfortunately dropped a book that would have received at least a 4 star rating down to 2 stars.
Nothing against Audible or against Janet for the words she wrote. In this case, the lack of a good review falls solely on Critt!
CJ Critt is a very good reader for a very specific type of genre; comedy is not one of her gifts. The timing is off, and it just takes the life out of what would have been enjoyable. I have enjoyed the Patricia Cornwell audio books that she has read, but the style of which Janet writes requires far more versatility than Critt can give.
My Audio Book Wish: Get the whole Plum Series Unabridged and read by Lorelei King!!!
"Enjoyable listen"
Love the story but I wish Lorelei King had been the reader.
"I hate the narrator!"
After listening to books 1 - 3 and loving the narrator I am very disappointed in this one. She sounds like a dull old lady and not a spunky young NJ woman. I am going to struggle to finish listening to this one.
"good book bad reader"
I agree with all the other reviews. The narrator is awful. The book is good though. Since I don't have time to sit and read I am glad I listened to the book. It was worth putting up with the awful reading to get to "read" the book.
"Narration Ruined it"
I am a big fan of the entire Stephanie Plum series. This story is good, same humor we've come to expect but the narration ruins it completely. I went back to the book for the one, the narration was so bad I wasn't able to make it through the audio edition.
I've never liked to read books. Listening to books has been great. It has made commuting so much nicer!!
"Great Story, Narrator lacked something"
I loved this book! The only thing that I didn't really care for was the narrator. She was lacking the Jersey accent that we all know Stephanie has. Good thing the storyline was so enjoyable, otherwise I probably wouldn't have finished the book.
"Stephanie Fan"
I LOVE the Stephanie Plum novels but the narrator in this story sounds like an old bar fly and not AT ALL like Stephanie! Book is GREAT narrator, not so much
"Disappointing narrator"
I loved reading all of the Stephanie Plumb novels and was looking forward to the audio version, but was disappointed in the narrator. Her portrayal of Stephanie was rather asexual instead of the babe that Stephanie definitely is, and her attempts to portray the men sounded like, well, a woman trying to sound like a man. Most narrators are able to pull this off more convincingly. This version distracted me from the story, at least as I had imagined it.
"Sub-par Narration"
Love the Stephanie Plum series, but this narrator just does not do justice to the characters. Sounds pretentious, but not funny. Needs a "Jersey girl" sound like the other narrators bring to the stories. Maybe this narrator is better with different types of novels.
