It was one of Eve Dallas’s earliest takedowns, back in her uniform days. A monster named Isaac McQueen had been abducting young victims and leaving them scarred in both mind and body. Thanks to Eve, he wound up where he belonged, removed from civilized society in Rikers. But he’s not behind bars anymore.
After his escape, McQueen has two things in mind. One is to take up where he left off, preying on the young and innocent - when necessary, with the help of a female partner all too willing to be manipulated and to aid and abet his crimes. His other goal: to get revenge on the woman who stopped him all those years ago, now a high-profile lieutenant in the NYPSD and married to one of the city’s richest men.
Commanding Eve’s attention with a chilling and brazen crime, McQueen sets off the chase - forcing Eve down a road marked with blood and tears, a road that eventually leads southwest to Dallas, Texas, the home Eve fled long ago. And each new twist brings her closer to the harrowing memory of when she wasn’t a hardened detective but a vulnerable girl just like McQueen’s innocent prey. As her husband, Roarke, tries to rescue her from the nightmares that claw at her mind, and her partner, Peabody, doggedly works to support her, Eve must confront - and call upon - the darkest parts of her own soul in order to survive.

"How does she do it?"
It's another of the best in the Eve Dallas series, if I could say it was page turning I would but instead I will say that I couldn't turn it off. The stories are all good but this is one of the best.
It had intrigue, horror, suspense and got to answer some of the questions we have had about Eve (the main chararcter). Simply stunning story
She is now and will always be Eve Dallas....I couldn't after so many books think of her as anyone else. She captures in my mind the true essence of the characters in the series and has made them her own so that they come alive in our imaginations as we listen. Brilliant.!
I am always amazed at how J D Robb can write such horror and suspense and then blend such stories together such as the bride series (as Nora Roberts) which are so joyous and loving - what a talent!!
"NY to Dallas"
One of the things I love most about the in Death series, is how the characters, especially Eve, have evolved over time. The author manages to keep Eve's toughness, while allowing her to show her softer, loving side, and also keep the raw terror of her childhood memories. It is brilliant, and the narrator is perfect. She is Eve, as well as all the other characters. I especially love her portrayal of Peabody. I definitely recommend New York to Dallas.
"Another WInner!"
I have every "In Death" book in audio and I love every one of them. Always a great listen. There can't be enough said for Susan Ericksen's performance. Her voice range for various characters is nothing short of amazing. Even her sultry voice of Roarke makes you want to swoon. Eve Dallas and Susan Ericksen make for a very commanding team!
"Worth the Wait"
I think it rare for a series to survive with such an eager audience after more than 30 books, but Robb delivers every time! There is much life yet in this Dallas-Roarke storyline.
I finished it in a day, and eagerly await the next installment.
"One of her best yet!"
I was beginning to tire of some of the storylines in the last few books. This book returned to the passion of the first few books yet added tremendous suspense and a surprising storyline!
"Great Book!"
I think this was one of my favorites! It has a fast-flowing story line, with the usual cast of characters only playing a minor part. Eve???s realization and the way Roarke handles her, is as always touching. Their bond seems to grow stronger with each book. As usual Susan Ericksen did an exceptional job of narrating!
"I Can't Get Enough of the series!!!!"
I loved this book!! The relationship with Eve and Roarke is my favorite literary relationship and this book highlighted why I care about this couple. Watching them deal with such an emotional case and how to care for one another was exceptional! Of course Eve's kick-ass style was also well represented, no matter what she has been through, she still manages to pick herself up and take care of business - LOVE HER!!
"Fabulous!"
I have all 35 "In Death" books on audio. There is not a poorly written or narrated book in the series. I absolutely love these characters & the stories are gripping & keep you guessing until the very end. If you like mysteries you will love these books. Thank you J.D. Robb for another fantastic book. I look forward to the next one!!! I have gotten so many friends hooked on this series - huge fan!
"Loved it"
Glad to see eve finally learn to deal with her past. Made me shed some tears. Now if she would just learn to be more refined :-)
"Loved this book"
