Salvation in Death: In Death, Book 27

I love this series, these characters, and can not say enough about this reader! She makes every character come alive.
This series is the very best of J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts work. I hope she keeps writing them.
I will buy every one the first day it is out.

Susan Ericksen is a brilliant audiobook reader, IMHO, because I love how she does the voices of the characters. I read another review for another J. D. Robb book where the reader was bothered by this, but I think she's absolutely brilliant. Nora Robert's characters are wonderful - I love all of them, down to the smallest parts - and with Susan portraying them so wonderfully...you have a complete experience when you listen to any of these audiobooks. I even hear the voices in my head when I read the regular books!!!

Another great JD Robb mystery.

I am continually amazed at the twists and turns that J D Robb can wind into a story, especially in a series that has lasted as long the "In Death" books have. I am not a fan of the grisly details in some of her books so Salvation In Death was a pleasant change while fully engaging the mind with a complex and fascinating mystery. And as always the enjoyment the regular cast of characters and Eve's personal opinions on "real" life bring.

Bit slow, not the usual pace and humour.I would not recommend it as a stand alone book as it would be off putting to the rest of the series and that would be a shame.To get the best from this series you need to start at the beginning its the only way to understand the characters and how they all come into play. I discuss the books with my sister who has also listened to the series and we often laugh at the antics of the characters. I love this series and thankfully a new one has been released. Keep them comming. I dont agree with the reviews about the narration,to maintain all the characters throughout 27 books is brilliant. well done Susan. Do yourself a favour, buy book 1 and go from there.

I enjoy the "in death" series, but this was a waste of a credit. It was a rehashing of previous books, and not a very good one at that. I was expecting another edge of your seat thriller that we have come to know and love, but this book was difficult to listen to with Peabody's constant whining and complaining, and Dallas's over the top contempt. Even the nariator seemed bored with the book and was just going through the motions. I found myself saying, "just tough it out, it might get better." I was wrong. Please bring back the old Dallas!

I am a HUGE fan of the "In Death" series, but this one just seemed to lack the usual punch they are known to deliver. The crime solving element was fantastic, but the rest of the story seemed to just skim over the interpersonal dynamics that normally exist between the cast of characters. Several of them were mentioned, but there was no new development to draw you in. Usually I can't stop listening until I am finished with one of these books, but this one was easily put aside for me and didn't hold my interest. Still a great series, though. I guess I just missed the reconnection with the group that I normally feel.

The relationships growing, maturing, and changing between the continuing characters of the book....also, the intricate relationships and interweaving of relationships in the other characters of the story--the perpetrators, the victims and the spectators, the players in the drama.

When Eve dealt with the mothers was memorable as was the prolonged ending of the story where Eve endeavored to make the evil perpetrator of the crime receive justice and the other person who was more moral receive lenient treatment by legal means.

It made me think...at times I felt anger at Eve's character for her inflexibility towards others perceived weakness.

One of the best of the series. The main story was very complex, with interesting characters and side stories but the shorter story of a murder in the center seemed contrived to add another murder into the book.

I used to live in this neighborhood around 1960 when I went to nursing school. The book brought back lots of memories.

The story was fabulous but the narration was the best. All of the voices and accents were done so well. It was like being in the neighborhood with the cacophany of sound that I remember so well.

Well, there's always a theme to these books. After some 30 books, though, a theme would be necessary for any of us to keep them all straight!

This one is centered around religion, faith, and the church. The plot turns out to be a bit TOO convoluted for my taste. (Don't worry - no spoilers here!) One of the things I have always loved about this series is that, with the exception of a few futuristic devices, and the sheer volume of drama that befalls our heroine, it's 100% believeable!

But in the end our plot, plan, and motive tuns out to be extremely intricate and somewhat forced, really. Generally speaking, people just aren't that complicated! And their motives are usually less so.

Didin't stop me from squeezing in every minute I could to finish it, though...
