I'd rather listen than read!!!! This is my joy!!!
"I love this book"
This is the best thus far for me. I love the first book but I do not really care for the book #5. I love this because it shows the vunerable side of Rhage and how he tries his best to shield Mary. It shows her strengths as well as her ability to be docile to her man's need. I love the romantic scenes when he tries to hold back only to give in to his need desire and want.
Rhage is my favorite character because he is strong, bold, funny, romantic and loveable. But all in all he's a warrior willing to protect what's his.
I really am growing to love Jim Frangione. At first I did not like him but now I am getting to love his style and his cadence/voice.
When Rhage wanted Mary and pushed himself away b/c he didnt want to hurt her. And denied himself pleasure!!
I love this book I am hoping the series doesnt let me down.
When I clean, drive or exercise I listen to romance. The steamier the better but it must have a great story as well!
"I love this book!"
This is one of my favorite books in the series! I have been waiting for it to be released in Audio format and was not disapointed! Rhage is the type of guy that most women would love to be with. This story has action and romance. If you enjoy fiction with action and steamy romance this book is for you! JR Ward doesn't disapoint!
"Oh, brother...my brother!"
I appreciate a GOOD story about an alpha male -- even as a feminist -- but these "alpha" males, who practice BDSM with each other, drive tricked out SUVs with limo tinted glass, listen to hardcore rap music (which demeans women and glorifies useless violence) and call each other "brother" every other word, are totally NOT hot.
The BAD:
* Terrible plot, terrible writing and awful-terrible dialog. "You feelin' me, brother?"
* Whipping each other (these guys are supposedly the kind of friends who would die for each other -- and we're told a thousand times they're "brothas") for a "punishment" that is supposedly deserved. The crime? He let a girl stay in his room. (Gasp!) But somehow it's all okay for them to whip their "brotha" because "they HAD to do it" and were supposedly really sad about having to do it. They all wear black hooded robes to the whipping ceremony....blah, blah. GROSS! Some people might really get off on this BDSM -- blood, physical pain and violence -- but in my book that is NOT romance.
* Weak willed women and even weaker "brothas" who are ruled by a heartless god who's made an edict that they will be punished (think barbed whips and beastly possession) if they dare to ask questions. ("Why can't they ask their god questions?" One might ask. But that's not something the author tells us -- she might be punishing us for daring to think a question.)
* Bad narrator (but there is only so much a narrator can do with a crappy story).
* A literal Dues ex machina (truly -- a black-robed god in the last chapter to make everything tie up neatly).
* Their god is this all-powerful woman -- well, if she's all powerful, then why does she need them? And she's a cruel being -- I'd find someway to kill her, not serve her. But these "alpha" males just lope along and jump at her every command.
* Total confusion on what the conflict is...what do these "brothas" do? (Besides sit around and whip each other.) What's their purpose? And what is driving the supposed bad guys in the story? The author doesn't even attempt an explanation at why they hate the vampires. And where does all of the money come from? Between the whippings, the constant workouts, the occasional fight and the commiserating with each other -- just who is out earning the dough to pay for their weapons, special facility, designer clothes, and the junked up SUVs?
* Incredible that the author thinks someone in late stage cancer -- apparently days from dying -- is feeling good enough to have several bouts of active sex. Really? Come on! Spend some time in an oncology ward and see how much energy those poor people have. Barely enough to go to the bathroom on their own, if they're lucky, let alone have great sex with a vampire. Lord!
The GOOD:
* I got it on sale. But I still feel cheated because I can't get those hours spent listening back. I'd pay good money to recoup my time!
Hopefully, this review might save you from making the mistake I did.
Happy reading! (Though I wouldn't look for it in this book.)

"JR Ward Writer of Erotic Horror Fantasy"
I see that people either love this series or they hate it. I'm thinking that they are only reading one book at a time, and not in order. If you Don't like Erotic Horror Fantasy. DON'T READ JR Ward books. I have read the first two of the "Fallen Angel" series and I'm hooked. That was the reason I started BDB. I am enjoying the BDB, but find the Fallen Angel series more to my liking so far. I'm up to book 4 in BDB and each one gives a different perspective of each member of the "Brotherhood". Erotic Horror Fantasy is not for everyone, and that is why I think it is important that you know what you are purchasing. I am enjoying the series so far and will continue. I am very much looking forward to the next "Fallen Angel"
I have always loved to read...but I often find it hard to find the time to sit down with a book. I started listening to audio books not too long ago, and I am hooked! It is hard to limit my listening to just during my comute to and from work! It has become a guilty pleasure of mine! I love just about every type of book, however I am a hopeless romantic to the core! :)
"BEAUTY FALLS FOR THE BEAST"
At the beginning, I honestly wasn't sure about this book, but it sure made up for in the end!! I really felt for Mary and not just because of her health complications. She is such a down to earth person who gives so much of herself and never seems to get anything in return...until she meets Rhage that is. Rhage on the other hand, is very tired of the habits he has had take up to keep his "inner beast", literally, at bay. However when he hears her voice for the first time, he and his beast seem to fall for her instantly, and only she seems to be able to tame him.
I really loved Rhage and Mary's defying the odds story even more than the last I think, despite some cheesy moments, which I feel the narration played a big part in. The ending really got to me and through me for a loop, literally bringing tears to my eyes from the sacrifice that Rhage gives. It is very unexpected, but such a great ending!! I also loved how this set up the next book very well! The only way this book could have been better would be the narration (good not great), but despite that...so worth the credit! Next book!!
"AMAZING STORY!!!"
Yes
There is no comparison to this book other than the other BDB books.
I really related to Mary.
The moment that moved me was the end when Mary was given eternal life.
"Rhage WOW"
Each book is about one of the warriors and their stories and I have come to love each book. Once you read book one, you can't wait to read the next book and Rhage, I love that a dragon comes out of him when he is PISSED OFF! You get two for the price of one. If you like the Edward and Bella story, this is the story on STERIODS! wait to you get to the restaurant scene I was in stitches!
"Start with Book 2 and skip Book 1"
My advice is to skip Book 1 in this series and start with Book 2 instead. You really won't miss that much and Book 1 is a bit weak and juvenile. But Book 2 will get you hooked and then you'll love the entire series. Great narrator too.
"Great!"
The story was awesome. I didn't want to stop listening JR has a great way of telling a story.
How the story keeps flowing there is never a point that you wish it would hurry and get to the good parts it is all good
How Rhage never gave up on finding Bella
"Awful writing"
Listing to this book was like being stuck in a B Private Eye movie and a badly written one. I gave it the first 1 1/2 hours and couldn't listen any longer. Too many snappy bad comparisom lines. Up there in my list of worse books I have read. Complete waste of a credit.
