Publisher's Summary

Outnumbered by the superior forces and firepower of the Syndicate Worlds, the Alliance fleet continues its dangerous retreat across the enemy star system. Led by the legendary Captain John "Black Jack" Geary, who returned to the fleet after a hundred-year suspended animation, the Alliance is desperately trying to return home with its captured prize: the key to the Syndic hypernet, and the key to victory.

Geary is convinced that the Syndics are planning to ambush the fleet and finish it off once and for all. Realizing the fleet's best (and only) chance is to do the unexpected, Geary takes the offensive and orders the fleet to the Sancere system. There, a multitude of possible routes home give the Alliance fleet a better chance of avoiding their pursuers - and an attack on the Sancere shipbuilding facilities could decimate the Syndic war effort.

Weary from endless combat, the officers and crew of the Alliance fleet can't see the sense in charging deeper into enemy territory - prompting a mutiny that divides them and leaves Geary with higher odds against him than ever before.

BONUS AUDIO: Author Jack Campbell describes how he brought real-world physics to the Lost Fleet series.

    "Battle on...."

I picked this novel based on customer feedback, I bought the first two books in fact. I can see how the story would just go on and on. I found the books monotonous after a while with the extremely in depth descriptons of the battles taking up much of the story. Seeing how the story never seems to end I doubt I will continue with the series.
    Narration was quite good however.

"Solid and linear continuation of the series."

The second book in Jack Campbell's "Lost Fleet" series builds upon the story set in the first. "Fearless" is definitely a step or two better than "Dauntless" was. The story grows and becomes a bit more complex in this installment, although it is still quite linear in that it follows only one character's viewpoint through it all.

This is straight military sci fi, and I enjoy hearing and considering all the tactics used. Some of the elements could be a bit more interesting, and more character dynamics could also lend a hand, but it was still an entertaining listen. I think would like to get around to reading or listening to the whole series at some point. It is clear that these guys won't make it home until the series is done.

    "The lost fleet: fearless"

After listening to book 1 in the series and now having finished book 2 "Fearless" I must say I am hooked on the series. It appears to be a short series but Jack Campbell has interested me enought I will go looking for more works by him. Christian Rummel does a great job narrating the book The time delay in space travel appears to be emphasized more in these book and the Harrington series by Weber than in the old star Trek movies.

I really like it. It has an almost TNG feel to it. Emphasis on SciFi realism.

Conference near end of book was very dramatic. I will be moving on to book 3.

    "Campbell Just Keeps It Coming"

The second book of the Lost Fleet series is another example of the talent of Jack Campbell (aka John G Hemry). There are a couple of mistakes in the book, but unless you are looking for them you'll miss them until your third or fourth read through. Every book has it's errors, but Campbell's errors are so small and so few they are easily missed. Campbell's attempt at incorporating real world physics into space battles are a proven success and he is slowly incorporating real world politics and diplomacy into his storyline. He proves that he is very familiar with how both work in the military world and molds them seamlessly into his story. By reading this series you are observing a very good writer slowly build up his knowledge and moving toward Hall of Fame status.

Christian Rummel is back and does a very good job continuing the story of Captian "Black Jack" Geary. Rummel's voice character development is very good and makes the story come to life. He brings Campbell's world to full color and life with his verbal theatrics.

    "great military SF series"

I love this series. I was listening to this book, and got so agitated about waiting to hear the end that I went out and bought the paperback to read it, then went back and still listened to it. :) This series has a epic quality of honor and pride in oneself and - in this case - the fleet, that I loved. Also, the narrator really brings the characters to life. I can't read the books now without hearing the voices speaking the lines. Highly recommend the entire series.

    "A well read ripping yarn"

I thoroughly enjoyed the voice acting and the story. I read the first book in the series and listened to the second, it was nice to hear how all the names should really be pronounced. If you like a good space fleet battle, Honor Harrington style, I think you would like this series.
