Publisher's Summary

Bertie Wooster's friend Gussie Fink-Nottle is sentenced to 14 days for wading in the fountain at Trafalgar Square. Bertie is worried that Gussie's fiancé Madeline will be angry because she has a distressing habit of turning her attentions to Bertie when her fiancé upsets her. Bertie has the bright idea of impersonating Gussie, and showing up at Deverill Hall. The situation is wonderfully comical when Gussie shows up, posing as Bertie. Only Jeeves, arriving in his own disguise, can sort out this mess.

This title has been published in print with alternate titles Jeeves and Bertie Wooster and The Mating Season.

    "perfect comic timing"

I love P.G. Wodehouse and this is one of my favorites of his books and Cecil is spot-on as the reader. Ordinarily I enjoy Frederick Davidson's renditions but for this title he cannot beat Cecil. In fact, I downloaded this version even though I had already downloaded the Davidson version. After many listens, the telling of the two deaf men on a train joke (and subsequent explanations for the aunts) still slays me.

    "PG Wodehouse at his best!"

This is one of the best of Bertie and Jeeves! All the regular nuts are present and waiting to become a bit more cracked..Gussie, Madeline and the gang get all mixed up with who is marrying who. As usual Jeeves is in the background making sure Bertie stays single while fixing all the rest.
I listen to the Jeeves series while gardening and at times I laughed out loud..I am sure the neighbors think I'm nuts too!
This is a great listen for those long airline rides as long as you don't mind people staring at you when you burst out laughing.

    "Wodehouse Delight"

Ah, Wodehouse! He has created England's most lovable nitwit, Bertie Wooster, and his most impeccable gentleman's gentleman, Jeeves. The machinations of the plot are the usual predictable romantic farce, but the point of the humor is the style (with Bertie as the voice of the author) and Bertie's frantic efforts to see his world as conforming to his preconceptions. Three characters spend most of the book impersonating each other, a dog named Samuel Goldwyn is nabbed by the village constable, and a gaggle of five aunts threaten to spoil the future of all the young lovers. The reader of this audiobook, Jonathan Cecil, is superb, effortlessly shifting between Bertie's joyful idiocy to Jeeves' formal deference. This book is not just good. It is jolly jolly good.

    "Stimulates the brain"

The narrator of this book is a comic genius. With Wodehouse at the helm and Cecil's tongue tilling the tale, your screams of laughter will be heard all the way to Basingstoke.

    "Love these books!"
What did you love best about Jeeves and the Mating Season?

I love the way P.G. Wodehouse writes... creative, witty and something I want to listen to again and again. POSITIVELY DELIGHTFUL!! I recommend this and any of his books very, very highly. This one in particular is quite fun :-) I must say, the narrator... is most excellent! He is so fun to listen to, and I find myself captivated by the sheer brilliance of it all.

    "Another favorite from PG Wodehouse"
Would you listen to Jeeves and the Mating Season again? Why?

I listen to these audible books again and again. Each time I get another bon mot from Mr. Wodehouse and I love his turn of phrase. His quiet humor makes these Jeeves stories so fun.

What other book might you compare Jeeves and the Mating Season to and why?

Any of the other Wodehouse Jeeves books are just as good. I listen to them all many times.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Cecil’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Although I have not heard Jonathan Cecil on other books, he would be the first I would ask if I were casting accents, multiple voices, great nuance needed. He is a 10+.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Jeeves helps orchestrate another good save for the always in the soup, Wooster, in this great romp in an English country manor.

    Any additional comments?

I do recommend this audible book.

    "You'll laugh out loud."
If you could sum up Jeeves and the Mating Season in three words, what would they be?

    Superb language humor.

Have you listened to any of Jonathan Cecil’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This was the first Cecil recording I had heard, and I am definitely coming back for more. He does a fabulous job of bringing the characters to life and expressing their pesonalities through his voice variation. He does a perfect voice for Jeeves.

    "Classic Wodehouse"

Danger looms for Bertie in the person of Madeleine Bassett, plus he has to deal with the horrors of having to impersonate Gussie Fink-nottle while Gussie arrives pretending to be Bertie. It's all very funny stuff, read with perfection by Jonathan Cecil, who brings new life to the characters. Just try listening to this and NOT smiling like an idiot!

"love the characters formula getting tired"

I love these characters, berty and jeeves are very interesting characters. My problem is that familiarity breeds contempt thing. the three that I have downloaded are all engaging and I do not regrett buying them, but they are all cut from the same basic outline.

I had complained that modern best selling authors all stick to the same formula, but so does Woodehouse. Oh well its still funny.

    The naration is great
