Pride Mates

I enjoyed the story. Thought it was good!!! However, for me, the narrator ruined it. It wasn't that she was awful....she was just.....indifferent....mundane....lukewarm. The connection between Kim and Liam just wasn't there. Not because of the story...but because of the narrator. Yes, she did an Irish lilt for Liam ok...but you didn't get the feeling of him being the "Manly Man." I believe the narrator is as important as the writer's story. When the narrator is lacking...it can sure ruin a Great book.

Never another book read by Traci Odom. Irish accent good, but it could not make up for poor reading skills. Speed was Ok, but Odom does not have the range to be a good reader. Author had a good outline, but needed better editing. I would not buy another of this authors work unless listeners gave it an great must buy rating.

story needs more work before movie material

Based upon the reviews, I tried this book and was very disappointed. The story concept was unique and had a lot of promise but the execution was not at all what I had hoped for. The main characters are seemingly in love almost instantly, the dialogue is frequently repetitive and stilted and does not convincingly convey the characters' emotions. Perhaps I would have liked the book had the performance been better. It is one of the worst read audiobooks I have purchased on audible in years. Other than trying to have an Irish accent for a main character, the narrator read the novel so fast, with no distinction between characters, sentences and/or chapters, I just wanted her to take a breath and stop for 3 seconds between chapters. She read the book in a monotonous tone that was painful to listen to, I kept listening only because I was hoping that this would get better. It never did. I would be willing to give the author another try but only in print.

The ease and simplicity of the narration - and I always love me some gorgeous men who get naked at the drop of a hat.

I've enjoyed the world that Jennifer Ashley has created with her shifters. Each of her characters are well developed and have fun/interesting/sometimes quirky personalities. I could only listen when on the open road - too engaging to try and listen to it in traffic ;-) I'd recommend it.

I am loving the mate thing right now. Wolf, bear, shifter or whatever and this book does not disappoint.

Liam Morrissey is a shifter and second in command of his shifter town and clan. Kim is lawyer and a human who strolls in shifter town looking to defend another shifter for a recent murder. Liam kind of goes into mating frenzy with Kim and Ashley just does and awesome job developing the story about the shifter town, the clan and how the shifters are treated alongside the human population. I usually don't like my shifter to be mistreated, but it totally works in this book, because they are but they are actually stronger because of it. So I made me happy. I love when Liam collar comes off he goes all Super Liam! Gonna kill everything in sight!!! Priceless!!!

Ashley is a great period writer as well, from her McKenzie brother series...So I love how the guy gets the girl, then guy lose the girl, then guy get the girl back played out in this book. Just like a classic romance novel, but in shifter format! Totally awesome. I loved it. And Liam bit her. LOVED IT!!!! Like I said...I am totally into the whole mate thing right now.

Narration was actually really good. This is my first Odom book. I liked her accents and variation of shifters voices. I love narrators who change their voice inflections. Odom did a great job.

Great start to new series.

I have listened to about 3 minutes (even though it feels longer) of this story and I had to look at the speed I was listening to a number of times to make sure I didn't have it on too fast. Wow - talk about a speed reader with no expression or fluency.
I have enjoyed all the books I have read from Audible - but this one is really not the best by a long shot.
I tried to pick up the storyline but found that difficult. After listening to Shannon's Scheme this is a real let down I am sorry to say. Oh well back to the books and find one that I can continue enjoying.

Would not change anything about this book.

I love the scene in the bedroom when Kim is first attacked. The way it is written really makes you feel the tension in the room.

I loved Liam she made him playful and her accent was very believable.

This seems like a pale version of the changeling series written by Nalini Singh, both the story and the narrators. I only listened to the first book in this series, and sampled the rest, but just not interested.

The hero and heroine are so well 'drawn' that I could easily visualize them, and the other characters in Shifter Town were fascinating!

The hero was very attractive in both his personality and his description.

Her voice was very unobtrusive. It was as if I was reading the book myself!

I did actually find myself chuckling during some of the conversations between the hero and heroine. They clashed perfectly!

I definitely recommend this book!
