"Narrator Michael Jayston's brilliant narration is a mastery of understatement finely tuned to the nuances and shadings of James' characters." (AudioFile)
"A CERTAIN SOMETHING WONDERFUL"
P.D. James never fails to amaze me with her insightful mysteries. She uses words like no other genre author and her characters have the depth we give to ourselves. Murderer, victim, ancillary character - all are dealt with respectfully and satisfyingly. I am so pleased that there are many other James' tomes at audible.com. I plan to enjoy them all.
"Great listen"
A great story read by an excellent narrator. Highly recommended.
"The teller not the tale"
I love P.D. James (Phyllis to her friends) - this is not one my favourite (The Murder Room, The Lighthouse, Devices and Desires contest that title), but it is finely wrought and well told, best of all Michael Jayston (who has recorded most of her work) is a wonderful narrator
"luvs2listen"
EXCELLENT!!!!! The reader was fantastic. I had a hard time shutting my Otis off. GREAT read.
"jayson and p d what a combo"
a gr8 mystery writer read by one of the greatest narrators of all time
A PLUS
A PLUSgr8 mystery
i love jameses writing style i read her books again & again, with michael jaysons reading. its just soooooooo good
"Such a disappointment"
I would not recommend this book to a friend. There is a great deal of scratchy sounding background noise that was distracting and made the reader's accent very difficult to understand. I love P.D. James's books and was looking forward to listening to the books I bought. I don't know if I can stand to listen to the others.
"blah, blah, blah"
way too much information! the narrator is "stuffy" and the story goes on for ever! I won't buy PD James again.

"YUK! Horrible. A waste."
How do I delete this from my library?? It is horrible. I only listened to a short bit and it is too graphic and obscene. What a waste3 : (.
To descriptive and disgusting.
How do I delete this from my library?
"Bored out of my skull"
Perhaps I haven't read enough novels in my time, but I gave up on this after a couple of hours. The attention to detail was over the top so the progression of the story suffered. It was as if it was written with the intention of providing the director all he needs to know to turn it to a movie. This is not the best review, but as I have only given it a couple of hours, this is all I can say.
