After a particularly bad streak of luck in Vegas, Charlie has retreated to Venice, having vowed to give up a life of crime to write crime fiction full-time. But inspiration has yet to strike. And to make matters worse, Charlie's agent, Victoria, shows up at his door just as his prized first edition of The Maltese Falcon flies out the window with a femme-fatale burglar. Blackmailed into committing a dastardly crime in order to get his book back, Charlie is catapulted into yet another adventure, this one even more explosive than the last.

"A joy to the ears!"
Simon Vance is one of the best narrators I have ever heard; and he IS Charlie. Each and every one of Chris Ewan's books has been intelligent, humorous, a good mystery, and a delightful romp. My only disappointment is that they are all so short! However, I will gladly spend a credit on whatever he writes. Few mystery writers can captivate in so many ways--he does it all.
"Entertaining!"
Loved this book! This is at the top of my list in my library. The action never stopped. You really wonder how Charlie could get himself into so much trouble. Of course it helps to have such a fabulous narrator. Simon Vance makes each character very individual, there is no doubt on who's who in the story. It was fun all around, a lot of humor and action. I am going to start at the first of this series!
I could hardly wait to see what happened to next to Charlie. The story just kept unfolding and unfolding. Brilliant!
This was an extremely fun listen. I would highly recommend it. Another thing that made this book so appealing to me was that it wasn't full of graphic violence, sex or foul language. Throughly enjoyed myself!
