Kaylin Neya is a Hawk, part of the elite force tasked with keeping the City of Elantra safe. Her past is dark, her magic uncontrolled, and her allies unpredictable. And nothing has prepared her for what is coming, when the charlatans on Elani Street suddenly grow powerful, the Oracles are thrown into an uproar and the skies rain blood….
The powerful of Elantra believe that the mysterious markings on Kaylin's skin hold the answer, and they are not averse to using her—how ever they have to—in order to discover what it is.
Something is coming, breaking through the barriers between the worlds. But is it a threat that Kaylin needs to defend her city against—or has she been chosen for another reason entirely?

"The best one yet"
The story and delivery of it by KH kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time
This cast series is my first on the genre and I'm swept away.
The intensity in which she delivers the story. The accents are great, distincts and characteristic. the emOtion with which she delivers the development of the love passages give me chills and I catch myself smiling with excitment sometimes.
Definitly. And almost did too. If basic necessity, like eating and sleeping, hadn't gotten in a way.
I wish they put out an ETA of the next books. I'm dying to know what with happen next.
My only issue with the stories is: even though there have been 6 books before this one after she became a private, the time line hasn't seem to progress. She is still 20yo and the stories always state that had only passed 7 years since she arrived at the tower. 6 books and 6 different stories that shows how much she has grown and learned. All of that happened within less than a year? I'd like to see her turn 21 (at least!)
"When will Keylin Grow up?"
Keylin doesn't reach a higher level of maturity with each book. Her feats are never acknowledged by the other characters and too much time is spent on theories and not enough on action.
With reservations. The novella was great and the next two were good, but after that the format just addressed another emergency without any growth.
There is hardly any romance. Just statements of love....boring
Bring back the excitement and wonder of the first several books.
"Kaylin -- Never grows up and never gains knowledge"
I too wish that Kaylin would stop complaining about lessons and actual LEARN something. I loved the first few books but she stays the same old uneducated (both in lessons and in life) girl who could be so much better. I thought by now we would see her grow but instead she goes into each situation with her eyes shut and comes up knowing nothing more than she did in the first Novella. Bummer.
I also agree that romance is LACKING. Does she care about Nightshade or Severn? Who knows? Is she stringing them both along? Seems that way to me. Let's get a move on here one way or the other. It can't all be doom and gloom!
Unfortunately it inspired me to discontinue buying these books. There are no answers, no romance, and no growth (Kaylin).
Love fantasy books, usually with a strong female character. I also enjoyed just about anything from J.D Robb I am a fan of mysteries as well. I also enjoy funny and quirky novels anything from Molly Harper is a winner in my book. Since listening to audio books is important to me while I travel I also follow certain narrators as well.
"Amazing Book Cant wait for the next one"
Wow...this series is one I stumbled on because the first Novella was free, boy I am glad I did I have listened to each book so far, and was so frustrated that I made it through them all so quickly, I must admit I listened to while driving to and from work and while cooking so to be fair I was addicted. Its a great series and very powerful, I cant wait for the next book. Boy I hope she writes fast.
"I love this series!"
I am not sure what it is about this series that I love so much. It's not perfect, but it's close. I Iike Kaylin, but to be honest there are times when I want to smack her. I just like Elantra as a whole. The city and the people. Sagara writes in such a way that I can see the city when I read her books. It's pretty awesome. The story is an interesting one. The idea of the refugees is an interesting one, I can't wait for the next one. Hvam is an awesome narrator, can't say enough about how awesome she is.
"love it"
yes, great book, great series
i liked them all
she gives the characters more life then i did when i read it
"awesome"
Good story, great narrater
Jane yellowrock, cause it has a good story too.
She is always awesome
Probably just cast in chaos
Words form the heart, sound forms the soul, intrigue forms the mind.
"Love this Series!"
Michelle Sagara has a way of keeping this series from getting stale. I really like the main character and the changes in each book.
Knew people and characters that are definitely going to come around again.
The female dragon.
Not your ordinary dragon.
I really like this series, even though the events seem to take place within weeks of each other, her main character grows up just a little more in each episode.
"a very different series"
very very different normally I would not listen to a book like this but the book had me from the start
