"history at its best"
this is a must hear. i have had co workers start to listen and get hooked and they took my work truck and drove slow just to hear it. i guess what i like the most is to me this is a true american hero. john wayne in real life. not some dreamed up hollywood movie. i wish it could be heard in schools so our kids could understand what a real good guy is. buy it you wont be sorry. narrator is good. makes you think there is more than one person telling the story.like watching tv but the picture is in your head
"This guy was amazing!"
So I was really looking for a book that gave me a feel for what snipers go through, and did it. I was mostly looking for the action side of it but this book goes into the biography and background of Hathcock also which at first I wasn't interested in, but later enjoyed. This book is written as more of a story with dialogue, rather than an after-action interview. Definitely an amazing story!
"A must listen, A+"
I was totally blown away by the story of Gunny Hathcock. The book completely rounds out his life. I felt as though I knew Carlos after listening to it. It was great to take on trips. I know of 5-6 people who have borrowed my iPod to listen to his story. I had not understood the sniper mentality until I started listening to this book and it really taught me a few things. A++
"The life of a hero"
A great uplifting story about a normal soldier who is just serving his country. The narrator is great and make the story come alive.
"Excellent audio book...time flys listening to this"
narrator did a great job, great true story well developed
fact that it was a true story taking place in my lifetime.
scope lock...the two enemy snipers had scope lock and Carlos fired fisrt
no listened to while traveling in auto and air plane
you will enjoy this story
"Carlos Hathcock is THE man!"
Top 3 and I have listened to way too many audio books.
Like best? I suppose the entire book was what I liked best.
I wish K Foley would perform ALL audio books from this day forward. This guy is by far the best narrator (or whatever you call these people) I have ever heard. He knows when and where to pause, change tempo, increase tone, etc. yes the book is awesome and combined with this guys delivery, wow!
Forced retirement, WTF?
Do not hesitate, not for a second, download this book RIGHT NOW!
"Starts slow and then picks up and is very good"
The true story of Carlos Hathcock, a Marine sniper in Vietnam with probably over 300 kills. The author does embellish some. As an example, he puts dialogue in the North Vietnamese mouths and minds which detracts from the authenticity of the story. The story of Hathcock hunting the enemy female sniper "Apache," known for torturing her captives by cutting off their eyelids and other appendages is highlighted, along with Carlos' battles with snipers who were sent to kill him. At one time the North Vietnamese had a wanted dead or alive poster of him paying substantial money for his death. Much of this story reminded me of the film "Enemy at the Gates," another story about snipers hunting each other. As of this date Youtube has a decent interview with Hathcock and it's worth searching for if you enjoy the book. I would recommend this title along with two other recent audio war books: "House to House" by David Bellavia and "War" by Sebastian Junger.
"Unforgettable"
Yes, and any friend at that.
Charles is an incredible person. One can't fathom the magnitude of what this man accomplished in his life without going through the entire book.
This is a gripping book. it doesn't matter if you know or care anything about guns or being a sniper. It helps if you do but isn't necessary. I am one of the most girly girls you may meet. This book will forever effect me because of his will and the skill he had.
Such a true hero. Very inspiring
"Excellent book with a great narrator"
Kevin not being monotone but changing his voice for the different characters.
The first person aspect of the book and detail of the events.
Kevin Foley really kept me into in because he changed his voice for the different characters in the book.
yes
"i really enjoyed this book"
do not know
when he said the only time he felt bad was when he missed because he knew that soldier would kill Americans
when he killed the sadistic female enemy soldier that would torture Americans
Carlos Hathcock: The original one shot, one kill
i really enjoyed this story about a real American hero
