Publisher's Summary

Death awaits the curious!

Out along the rim of the galaxy hangs a loose configuration of some 60 stars known as the Faustian Chain. This whorl of sparkling suns is rich in planets and occupies an irregular volume of space some 20 light years in diameter. From an external viewpoint, the Chain presents a colorful display of plasma-streams, luminous nebulae and sparkling pinpoints of light. The human colonists who settled the Chain were aware the region had recently been populated by other species - beings that had all but vanished after waging devastating wars thousands of years in the past. Little was known of them, but certain areas in which their artifacts still persisted were proscribed by interstellar law.

Mech: Zero is a novella by best-selling author B. V. Larson. Set at the beginning of the Imperium Series, this story is a prequel to the outbreak of war. The series involves early human colonies in a region of space previously occupied by a vicious alien species.

"Nice Pre to the Mech saga"

Nice short starter story, with cool Sci-fi. It should have been longer, but we'll see how Mech 1-4 is.B V Larson writes good books so far.

    "A good short story"

Interesting enough to make me look up book two. There is only so much you can do in a short story, but I have fingers crossed that then next book is as good. (and a little longer)

    "Easily entertained"
What does Mirron Willis bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I'm pretty sure I could have done a better job, but hopefully he did better when he recorded the other books of the series.

    Any additional comments?

I bought this purely to see if I'd be interested in this story, and, as the headline says, I'm easily entertained, so I will be giving the series a chance. A reviewer of Mech 1 said that it needed a prologue, well this is it. The story, while not the best I've ever listened to - even just in this catagory - is still good enough for cheap enough that I feel this is a good introduction to a series.I'd be willing to give a chance to. My only real complaint is the narrator who sounds like he phoned in the performance, that is to say that it was very robotic and took some getting used to. More objectively the ratings should be:Overall: 4 starsPerformance: 3 starsStory: 4 starsbut I bumped my rating with hopes that the problems I had with this first installment might not be present in the full length novels, and, as previously stated, I am easily entertained.

I flip-flop between business and fiction books to keep me grounded in reality while still keeping my childhood love of fantasy firmly intact.

    "I was pleasantly surprised!"

It was a great story, which surprised me! I was afraid that it would sound like his "Swarm" series, but the story is completely different! I'm now excited to "read" the rest of the books in the series!

"Not bad, entertaining and some insite."

This was a decent short story. My only complaint would have been that it was too short.

    "Left Me wanting"
What did you like best about Mech Zero: The Dominant? What did you like least?

I have recently complained about sequels and why do all writers feel the need to have continue a story over 10 books. Well, I got my wish in this book by B. V. Larson…sort of. What I got was a story that ended like it a sequel was coming. The story ended so abruptly, I had to check my player to be sure it did not skip something. On top of this, the reading of this is lacking in fluidity and was choppy. The story is pretty good, albeit very short. This should be classified as a short story or needs a sequel written. It did left me unsatisfied and wanting more of the tale. I wanted more depth, more development, and just more story. What happens next? Who are/were these people? I would not buy this unless you like cliff hangers without any promise of what is at the bottom.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Develop the characters and the universe to get some depth.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

    Choppy delivery

Could you see Mech Zero: The Dominant being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

    Nope
