The Reverend's Wife: A Reverend Curtis Black Novel

I am a long time fan of Mrs. Roby, and I have read all of her books. This is the first time I have ever been disappointed. Curtis Black is no ordinary minister and his wife is not your average first lady. This book never grasped my full attention and the characters were "boring". I kept waiting for something, anything to happen, and it didn't. By the time the book wrapped up I was bitter. I wasted a credit on this. It happens to the best of us. I expected more and felt that this book was rushed. I expected more from the Black family and this seem like a formula that has already been used. Sorry Kimberla, you lost me with this one.

I love Kimberla Lawson Roby but the Curtis Black stories contain so much of the same drama that it is played out. New charactors and plots are needed. At the end of the book I notice his son has gotten the girlfriend pregnant so the drama continues.

This is definitely the worst book I have ever read. I will never buy a book written by this author again. I question how it got published! If I could have rated it a negative star, I would have done so.

I have loved the trials of the Black family since the first book and now in this latest book, could they finally be on track? I certainly hope not. Curtis shows that he is working to keep his promise to God; or is he? I could feel his struggles that he was having with his faith as he moves towards a decision that could not only upset his youngest child but also his congregation. The book was a wonderful listen and Mrs. Roby did not disappoint, however, Charlotte did work on my nerves with her begging and pleading. I cannot wait to see what the Black family will bring us next.

This is the forth book I've read of the Rev. Black series, this one's pretty good. But I think this story line has run out of steam. The characters have FINALLY redeemed themselves.

Both the Rev. Black and his wife have become near and dear to me. Because I've watched them go through so many ups and downs thoughout the series. I just sit back and shake my head.

She's great at adding life to the characters. Plus with all of them you never get confused with who is who. Every voice is unique.

That's hard to answer, because I just want to ask both of them "Hey, when are you gonna learn?" Especially the wife, she just keeps making the same mistakes over and over again!

Like I said. I love this story line, it reads just like a Soap Opera. I can actually see the scenes played out. But I think the Good Reverend's story is kind of played out. I would love to revisit the daughter's story as was intro'd in "The Best ofEverything"

I love Kimbela Lawson Roby. At least, I thought I did. I appreciated her storylines...the first four or so of them. Now they are starting to become repetitive and redundant. Every new installment of her Pastor Black series somehow involves either the Pastor or his wife cheating, procreating, and a bitter, misguided, and vengeful mistress/mister. It is starting to get old and boring. I wonder how many more installments she is going to make that involve such a storyline. It would be nice to see the characters grow and have real issues that real people deal with...like dealing with the economy or stresses of jobs and our kids or battling with identity crises among the African-American community. I'm not sure if I will read another novel in the Pastor Black series but if I do I am hoping that the plot develops a bit more than it has in previous novels.

I would not listen to this title again, but I would recommend it to another.

Though I was wishing for another ending to the Curtis Black series, I am still happy with the ending and that this family was able to get on the right track!!!

yes because i liked it. i would comment that the story is not developed to full potential as i find all these robey books (a good part of the story is conveyed thru conversation).

oh yes.

i am repeating myself. but more depth would make this a five star book all around. it is a little melodramatic but i found the book entertaining and will buy other books by robey.
