Barely a teenager, Kaylin Neya is a thief, a fugitive, and an attempted assassin. She also has a smart mouth, sharp wits, and mysterious markings on her skin. All of which make her perfect bait for a child prostitution sting in the city of Elantra - if she survives her first meeting with the Hawks!

"Kaylin joins the Hawks - backstory, not a repeat"
A previous reviewer said that this was part of the first book - I don't believe that's accurate. It is sort of a prequel, though, explaining more about how Kaylin joined the Hawks and details about the story that had only been implied before. If you're interested in what exactly happened to bring about her
"Great short"
I really like this series. I like how this introduces you to the younger versions of the characters. The ending felt rushed but this was still one of the best short stories of a established series that I have read/listened to. Hvam did a great job, as usual.
"Very good, gives important series background info"
It filled in blanks in the history of the world and the main characters life and motivation. This novella is listed as 6.5 in the series and this may be the the chronology of when it was written but the information it contains gives insight that makes other occurences in the series much more understandable. The information and happenings in this series entry give insight into the main character's motives, and how the experiances of the main character's past influence the behaviors that are protrayed in other series entries.
The entire series is very enjoyable and very original. This series is not a pale copy of other fantasy worlds but an original world with its own rules and norms for behavior. As the novels progress through the series the reader or listener learns about more facets of the society. The main characters are well developed, believeable, and sympathic.
The main charcter. We get to see her learn and grow over the course of the novels.
Enter an incredable new world
I think this should be placed befor book 1
"Must read"
I am a huge fan of this series. This book covers the early years and as well as being a wonderful story it adds depth to the other books in the series.
I look forward to seeing more books about the adventures of Kaylin.
"Back Story (Book 0)"
Although this is listed as book 6.5, it is really the back story on how Kaylin became a Hawk.
For a short story it is written and performed as well as the regular series. It is great to get more insight into an event that is referenced as shaping Kaylin's life with the Hawks.
"An immensely enjoyable listening experience"
The style was superb, the characters gripping and memorable.
Hard to say since every part seems to stand out as exceptional, but if pressed I would have to say the beginning.
Definitely laugh. You felt as if you were in the action with the characters taking it all in right along side them.
Right from the beginning you are sucked in and don't want to stop. Sagara wrote a fantastic story and Hvam did an exceptional job lending her voice to characters that felt truly alive.
"SAME as FREE version earlier"
Khristine's reading is great. I love her different voices for diff characters.
I wish I'd read comments before buying, even for just a little $, it IS the same as the free one offered that got me started in this series. It is listed as "Book 6.5", but it's not. I do love the series and thought this was just a connector between books 6 & 7.
"Wish the book was longer...very engaging."
In Cast in Moonlight, Michelle Sagara did a wonderful job of filling in the main character's back ground.
I'm 37 years old. A single Mother of two boys and a small business owner.
"what"
I am very upset about this book. It says that this is book 6.5 but it is,not. It is book 1. I got the book thinking it was a new one. Very misleading. If you already purchased the first book do not get this one it is the same one.
