Publisher's Summary

Marc Seidman awakens to find himself in an ICU, hooked up to an IV, his head swathed in bandages. Twelve days earlier, he had had an enviable life as a successful surgeon, living in a peaceful suburban neighborhood with his beautiful wife and a baby he adored. Now he lies in a hospital bed, shot by an unseen assailant. His wife has been killed, and his 6-month-old daughter, Tara, has vanished. But just when his world seems forever shattered, something arrives to give Marc a new hope: a ransom note.

Both a white-knuckle thriller and a story about the loyalty of old friends and the bond between parent and child, No Second Chance is another masterpiece from an author who writes "suspense at its finest" (Jeffrey Deaver).

©2003 Harlan Coben; (P)2003 Penguin Audiobooks and Books on Tape, Inc.

"You're going to like this experience !"

This was my first Coben book. After listening I bought another. I never felt let down. The book just flowed with one twist after another. I usually listen to audible books when I commute to and from work. This tale caused me to continue listening every night when I finished my journey. Get it, you'll love it, I did.

    "Really"

The villians in this story reminded me of some of the bad guys in John Sandford's Lucas Davenport series. Really wretched, which makes this a really good story. The narration is excellent and the flow of the story is near perfect. The twist at the conclusion is fairly predictable, but I don't think it detracted from the whole. None of the protagonists, including Marc and Rachel, are totally likeable but I think that makes for a more interesting novel. If you like suspense, twists and turns and a satisfying ending, you will enjoy this listen.

"No Second Chance Doesn't Need One"

No Second Chance is one of the most enjoyable picks that I've had from Audible.
It goes without saying that Scott Brick's narration is terrific.
This story grabs the listener with the pathos of the sudden and terrible destruction of a man's life and doesn't let go until a re-birth that touches the heart.
Be careful of a plot that not only has twists but hairpin turns.

    "One of Coben's best"

Coben has rewritten the book on mystery-suspense. His third novel in the non-series works that have redefined his readers, he remains at his peak. The narration on this nearly equals the narration by Ed Sala on the unabridged version of Tell No One that is a must listen and must read. Tell No One was the first of his four mystery-suspense works.

"Great Storyline Keeps This Winner Afloat"

Honestly, as I was listening to the first two-thirds of this book, I was wondering when I was going to discover the same excitement others did. It was an amiable story, obviously intricately plotted, but not something that deserved so much praise. I even felt Scott Brick gave a less than stunning narration. But, in true Coben fashion, I was knocked out by the final third. This book is well worth the purchase. The fact that is has absolutely no connection to what could have occurred in the "real" world doesn't enter into the equation. A great job by a talented writer.

    "First Rate Thriller"

Well, first I have to say that I have an Audible addiction. I have three accounts and download about 5 books a month, more or less. Obviously, I don't hit on all winners, and some I just have to abandon completely.
However, any book I've chosen that Mr. Scott Brick has read is always a sure bet. There have only been one or two that I had trouble with, but I don't fault Mr. Brick for it. No Second Chance is a thoroughly engrossing read, though; no problems with story or narrator. You get hooked right from the first chapter and love every minute you are with the protagonist. I would recommend this book to anyone with a love for fast-paced mysteries, this book doesn't lack action, there are no long spots to get bogged down in, you just wish the story was longer. Try it and see if I'm not right.

    "Slowest narration ever!"

While the story line was fine, the narration of this book was awful. I am not sure why everyone is giving Scott Brick such rave reviews. If he spoke at a pace that people would normally speak, the book would have taken half as long to listen to, would have been easier to follow and would have just been a generally more enjoyable listen. When there is a sense of urgency in the writing, there should be a sense of urgency in the reading. Instead, every single bit of dialogue was dragged out and read way too slowly. It was completely monotonous. I couldn't wait for this book to end.

    "Not something I would recommend"

I was really disappointed at how thick headed the main character was. I started rooting for the bad guys to take him out and end his suffering. There were too many little story lines going on in this book, it was disconnected. I didn't really care at all for this and will really have to debate whether or not I would listen to another one by this author.
I like the narrator, I have listened to several books that he has done so I know the problem here was all storyline.
