March to the Sea: Prince Roger Series, Book 2

OK, so David Weber and John Ringo aren’t going to win any Pulitzer Prizes for this story and so maybe the characters were predictable and so was the story line. So who cares! This was a fun story to listen to. The story kept up a fast pace throughout the whole book. Actually through out all 3 of the books that I heard. This is truly one continuos story line from "March Up Country", "March to The Sea" right through "March to The Stars" and I feel safe to say will carry on into "We Few" (which I will be reading very soon). These books just made me want to keep going through this adventure to see what would happen next. It was basic good vs bad (not evil). Many of the ideas and scenarios developed through out the books were quite clever and unique and the integration of high tech vs pre industrialized Earth society (Though not on Earth) was well done. Though why the bow and arrow never came up is a bit puzzling. I wanted to give these books a 3 star rating but just couldn't because they were so much fun. This was just a good all around listen.

Weber and Ringo do military SciFi about as well as anyone, and this series is no exception. This is the second in the four part series, so start with March Upcountry if you haven't read that yet. The reader is Stefan Rudnicki, whose readings should be familiar to anyone who listens to much science fiction, and he's a good reader. The story develops characters beyond where we were with Upcountry, and kills off a few more, including at least one I didn't want to lose. But other than that, a thoroughly enjoyable read and it's 19 hours long!

We all know by now that the books were here out of order, but that's been corrected and all four books are now here at Audible.. Audible picked up the other books VERY fast.

"March to the Sea" chronicles Prince Roger and the Bronze Barbarian's (and some real barbarian's) march to the point where they will cross the sea to reach the "Empire of Man's space port".

More "Out of the Box thinking" from Weber and Ringo (I had the pleasure of talking to Ringo again at the 2006 Dragon*Con), and we get to see Prince Roger transform a bit more from the "Clothes Horse" that he was, into the "Respected Leader" that he will become.

Weber and Ringo consistently give us great Military Sci-fi.

Wow! What a great find! Don’t you just love it when you try the first book in a series and you turn out to LOVE IT? Well that is exactly what happened here with me. I could not wait to download the next book, and they are all nice a long (so you get a lot of ‘bang for your buck.’) All of these Prince Roger books are the kind of ‘long’ that goes by fast. There is plenty of satisfying action and the character development if great too. You really get to love each character and see what happens to them. This one is just as great as the first two. I highly recommend each and every book in this series…If you like the first book your will like them all.

Good story, good characters & good narrator

I love a good adventure story, be it "Indiana Jones" or "The Mist", and this series does not dissapoint. The characters are becoming more fleshed out, and both strengths and weaknesses are examined. The military jargon and tactics are well thought out, and are on par with the best fictional war authors around. The only downside is that the encounters with the native peoples are becoming a bit repetitive. Marines find a new town. Fight to save town. Repeat. However, it is tolerable, and the characters actions and dialog make up for this SMALL bleminsh in an otherwise fine SciFi/Fantay series. March to the Sea next please Audible!!!

I haven't read the print version, but the audio is great-engrossing and well performed.

If you want to enjoy a fine tale, like good battle scenes, charming characters and imaginative settings, this is a great series. You could nitpick about the sometimes overlong narratives and the recapitulations because its a series but the rest is so much fun, why bother. Of course there is more than a subtle dose of geopolitical allegory but since I share their views I quite comfortable with the the undercurrent.

Characterizations and battle craft remind of other Ringo novels, a winning formula so why not.

Just letting him get through the names and places alone is worth it.

The story continues as Roger and marines march on toward the space port. There are more epic battles to come along the way and the writing is as good it is in the first book.

I absolutely loved the characters in this series.

Any book by John Ringo is worth a listen!!!

The most memorable moment for me was when I realized that I wished I could stand and fight alongside Prince Roger, and I no longer just wanted someone to just punch him in the mouth
