Publisher's Summary

Cassie Wright, porn priestess, intends to cap her legendary career by breaking the world record for serial fornication. On camera. With 600 men. Snuff unfolds from the perspectives of Mr. 72, Mr. 137, and Mr. 600, who await their turn on camera in a very crowded green room. This wild, lethally funny, and thoroughly researched novel brings the huge yet underacknowledged presence of pornography in contemporary life into the realm of literary fiction at last. Who else but Chuck Palahniuk would dare do such a thing? Who else could do it so well, so unflinchingly, and with such an incendiary (you might say) climax?

What the Critics Say

"Striking characters, sharp parody, and a tight plot....Highly recommended for mature [audiences]." (Library Journal)
"McLaren's gritty voice adds the needed edge to this seedy but interesting novel." (Publishers Weekly)

    "Classic Palahniuk!"

I have read or listened to most of chuck's work and this is very much in keeping with his quirky observations of human interaction, experience and information.

It is a short sweet tale of what happens on the set of a porn film. I found it Clear and with a very strong plot. I dont know what the other reviewers listened to or what they were doing when they tried to listen.
The book is very good, it reminds me of Survivor a bit.

I believe a reviewer should finish a book before submitting a review. What do you think?

    "Dont waste your time"

The premise was alluring and probably could have been an interesting story; a look into a totally foreign culture and an outrageous act. Instead, although I stuck it out (no pun intended) to the end (again), I really wished I had not bothered. The author wrote a terribly confusing (couldn't tell which character was speaking) and totally boring account of a story that by nature sparks one's curiousity. I dont know how he pulled it off, but he did. UGH!

    "It is worth the read."

Chuck Palahniuk writes about a variety of topics. Each time he finds something new in the human condition. Talking about the Porn industry and those it attracts isn't an easy read. Yet Palanhniuk write a story about humanity in all its gory detail. This story has stayed with me for a while, which I didn't think would happen from such a short story.

"Not my favorite Palahniuk book, but not a bad read"

The story is not bad. I would recommend "Survivor" over this book. This is very similar to Palahniuk's "Choke," so if you like that book, you will be satisfied.

    "You Can Smell the Desperation"

If you have ever wondered what the world of porn is like...this book will give you a fast and aggressive glance. The characters are well drawn. The environment (a green room)is one you can smell and is fervent with urgency, regret and release. Snuff contains the author's signature skewed observances and humor. A very fast read. I showered after reading it. The reader does and outstanding job. B+

"A Tedious Downward Step for Listners"

I've been a big fan of Chuck Palahniuk's work since reading Lullaby and seeing Fight Club but no longer. After listening to his previous book Rant and now Snuff I can now attest that Chuck Palahniuk has lost it. What he had in his early books (let's say anything before Haunted) is gone now. What we're left with is an author who feels his only remaining gift is his ability to shock, and that's a shame.

Early Chuck Palahniuk books had characters in them. Characters that did shocking things, sure, but you cared about them. In this book you never really care because each chapter is more outrageous that the previous one; and that's all the book has to offer. The characters are all one dimensional shells.

Take a pass on this book and find something good to listen to.

Father-husband-technologist and bibliophile, I get through about 3 books per week. I love a good suspenseful thriller and really enjoy widening my mental horizons.

"Provacative title, but a flacid plot."

So perhaps you're looking for something risque? A thriller that involves forbidden content much like the movie "8mm" that with Nicolas Cage? If so, this isn't it. Guys stand around the waiting area of a porn studio talking about nonsense, and that's basically the plot. Oh yeah.... there's a death, but it's barely instrumental to the plot. Move on to another audiobook if you can.
