Publisher's Summary

Brinkley Springs is a quiet little town. Some say the town is dying. They don't know how right they are. Five mysterious figures are about to pay a little visit to Brinkley Springs. They have existed for centuries, emerging from the shadows only to destroy, to kill. To feed. They bring with them terror and carnage, and leave death and blood in their wake. As the night wears on, Brinkley Springs will be quiet no longer. Screams will break the silence. But when the sun rises again, will there be anyone left to hear?

    "Interesting and a fun listen"
What did you like best about A Gathering of Crows? What did you like least?

The gathering of crows is a brutal goring listen. The story is complete horror and thriller! Not Brian's best work but very interesting. Most people have heard the theories of the vanishing settlement with the words Croatoan the only clue left behind. Based on the true story Brian mixes in a fictional brutal version of what happened to the settlement and to the present town being rip to shreds.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

    The hero

Did A Gathering of Crows inspire you to do anything?

    Keep listening to Brian Keene

"I really don't know how to rate this book"

Every paperback copy of Brian Keene's work that I have read, I have loved. Every audiobook of his that I've listened to, I've struggled with. The reason seems to be the narrators that are chosen to read them.
In a previous review on one of Keene's audiobooks, I explained that that particular narrator was horribly inconsistent and made it very hard to listen to. So hard, in fact, that I still haven't managed to listen to the sequel, which is read by the same guy.
A Gathering of Crows is read by a different man, but again, I don't like him. The voices he uses for some of the women are particularly annoying and whiny, but just overall I really don't like the performance.
The performances of all of Brian Keene's audiobooks that I've listened to grate on me so much that I can't give a proper review of the work. The work doesn't stick with me, the bad narration does.
I've given this book four stars for the story simply because I suspect that it's fine beneath all that horrible narration. I will stick to paperback copies of this man's work from now on, I think. And it's such a shame, because I really do like his books.

    "Ehhh"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

If there were things I could change about this book I would choose two things. The first would be the endless political comments. The second would be how every female character is either a grumpy spinster or a complete moron. I'm not sure if that's what the author intended but if so, he must really not like women.

What three words best describe Monty Lewis Sauerwein’s performance?

He has an amazing voice until he does a woman or a childs voice. It turns a little too nasaly and whiney. With that said, I would not object to listening to this man's voice again.

Did A Gathering of Crows inspire you to do anything?

Yes, it inspired me to find another book by another author.
