Publisher's Summary

Mother, wife, private investigator... vampire. Six years ago, federal agent Samantha Moon was the perfect wife and mother, your typical soccer mom with the minivan and suburban home. Then the unthinkable happens, an attack that changes her life forever. And forever is a very long time for a vampire.

Now the world at large thinks Samantha has developed a rare skin disease, a disease which forces her to quit her day job and stay out of the light of the sun. Now working the night shift as a private investigator, Samantha is hired by Kingsley Fulcrum to investigate the murder attempt on his life, a horrific scene captured on TV and seen around the country. But as the case unfolds, Samantha discovers Kingsley isn't exactly what he appears to be; after all, there is a reason why he survived five shots to the head.

Blood money: listen to more in the Vampire for Hire series.

    "A Nice Surprise"

I thought I would try some of Audible's productions and saw that Mr. Rain was a #1 Kindle book seller, so I thought I would give him a try. I was not disappointed. This has a little bit of a different spin on the vampire/werewolf supernatural genre. First Mrs. Moon doesn't (usually) drink human blood. Second, she tries to keep up appearances as a human by even going so far as to slather on sunscreen and a hat and shades so she can pick up her kids from school. Third, she is a PI (former Federal Agent for HUD) and doesn't want to become a killer, like a lot of legends have portrayed many vampires. Only a few people close to her even know the truth about her "skin disease." This series really humanizes many aspects of the supernatural and how they are coping with their "condition," and how they carry on relationships. Whether they consider themselves still one of "God's children" or not; if they think they, themselves, are good or bad.

The books are not very long, compared to some, but there is a lot of ground covered. It will be interesting to see the continued character development in the next installments of this series. I appreciate Audible taking a chance with this author and would probably enjoy some of his other books in audio format as well. Too bad my library doesn't carry his books.

Dina Pearlman does an outstanding job in her reading of this work.

    "Not Your Typical Vampire Story"

Loved this new take on the life of a vampire. The story and narration were both excellent. I highly recommend it. My only gripe is the length of the book (short). I didn't mind buying it on special but I did not, and probably won't, pay the usual asking price for the rest of the books in the series. It was good but not good enough to justify the expense. Audible - please put the rest of the books on special or lower the regular price.

    "Interesting twist on vampire stories."

I liked the idea of how turning into a vampire is like getting a horrific disease. Since I know several people with rare, debilitating diseases, I could relate to how people in the book either turned away in fear and disgust or were able to see beyond the disease to the person within. Certainly, issues with spouses and children are usually an issue with people with disease or who have become a vampire (or other supernatural being). I will listen to the rest of the series just to follow the family issues and hopefully Rain will stay close to the reality.

    "Fantastic--"
What made the experience of listening to Moon Dance the most enjoyable?

It was the perfect blend of earthy humor and mystery woven in amongst the paranormal goings on. Even my husband liked it, and he doesn't like anything.

What other book might you compare Moon Dance to and why?

    Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series

What does Dina Pearlman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Oh my goodness, she brings the visual aspect to a basically two deminsional experience.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It made me laugh. That was a hell of a first paragraph, you've got to admit.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this to a friend who enjoys mystery vampire books.

Would you recommend Moon Dance to your friends? Why or why not?

I would recommend it, but only as a light read. It's pulp fiction, not too deep or meaningful.

    "REMEMBER, EVEN VAMPIRES HAVE FAMILY!"
Would you consider the audio edition of Moon Dance to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print version of Moon Dance, but I don't see how it could be better than the audio version. The narrator in the audio version has the opportunity to flush out the plot, the characters and the heart aching situations that arrive better than to just see it in print.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Moon Dance?

The wife, through no fault of her own became a vampire and her husband began to judge her and pull away, despite how much she tried to maintain an attitude of a normal marraige.

Have you listened to any of Dina Pearlman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't listened to Dina Pealman prior to this performance, but felt she lent an extraordinary flavor to an other than ordinary occurance to a normal working woman.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

    No.

Liked her new romance, since her husband treated her so bad.

What does Dina Pearlman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like her voice. Enjoyed her narration.

    Any additional comments?

Really enjoyed this book, different than other vampire type books I have read/listened too. Looking forward to others in this series.

    "Different twist on vampire theam"

A married vampire with kids. Talk about your really screwed up relationships. However she's a good mom, and really tries. The story is really an interesting one and this is just book one of a series. I really did enjoy the story and narration by Dina Pearlman. Not that long of a listen, but it keeps moving. I'm going to try the next book in the series to see if J.R. Rain can keep up the interest and mystery.
