Listen to another Fallen novel.

"This again?"
I guess this is my own fault, because I should know better than to go searching for something in the YA category of substantial depth with decent writing. This was a quickie impulse and I cant bring myself to finish it. The writing is mediocre, the plot is maddeningly predictable, and the angst isn't very convincing. What angers me the most is how flimsy the characters are. The heroine is practically non-existent aside from her run-of-the-mill tortured past, and the main love interest is simply attractive and mysterious. They're paper thin characters that never made it off the page to become more than just words, and the "He's so mysterious, I wonder what he's hiding behind that cloak of mystery" thing is getting old. It doesnt help that everytime Daniel gets around Luce he's absolutley torn between loving her (because she has such a personality!) and doing the right thing (which causes the paper thin angst). The "I cant tell you anything, but look at the sadness in my eyes" bit is played out!! And where do I start with the reform school they are attending? Oh the treacherous reform school with cameras and barbed wire and students who carry pocket knives and permanent markers! Cliche much? I rolled my eyes at the fact that the students rarely go to class, but when Luce slept through an entire morning of her classes I realized I couldnt go on very much further. But I did, and when another student has a car and driver pick Luce up to bring her to a bar, where he hangs out most days, cause, you know, reform schools are cool with that, I put the brakes on this book. I was down with Twilight and knew to take it for what it was, but this is just a sad attempt to cash in on the teen saga mania of today. I actually want my credit back.
"Slow moving..."
This book was recommended to me from a friend, she really enjoyed it... But I didn't. I feel that the build up to the "climax" was extremely long, and when the climax finally came, it was a let down. I like the idea of the fallen angles, good vs. evil. I know this is in the YA category, but it is extremely young adult. If you are looking for a little more romance, and suspense, then I doubt this series is for you. I did also listen to the second book. And I think that if you had a hard time with finishing Fallen, then you will not enjoy Torment.
Audiobooks have changed how I drive! I look forward to driving for work when I have a good book on deck.
"Late Bloomer Worth the Listen"
I was quite interested in Fallen's plot and once it began to actually unfold I found this book to be sort of thrilling. The downside is that the unfolding doesn't actually begin until about hour seven. The narrator was quite good; the stubtleties of her narration set a haunting tone which lent to my enjoyment once the plot actually unfolded. If you have real interest in supernatural teen angst, stick with this late bloomer.
"Fallen"
Wonderful...different.
I hoped there would be a sequel, even as I realized the story sort of lays it out that one isn't needed, it's open enough to have one. A brand new kind of tale, a redeemable Fallen Angel such as you see in Legion, where one or more just did as they felt or thought and so "Fell" but not really such dark things. A shining example of how there are lighter and darker aspects of every species and how every ethereal thing is more or less touchable than once thought possible; planets, clouds, scientific facts now, were once acts of the heavens incomprehensible.
I would recommend this book and Angelology, though this one has a more happy young feeling.

"Slow start to a mysterious romance"
The pace of this book lags a bit, but if you can hang in there the story will entice you to come back for more to see who Luce chooses; Daniel or Cam.

"A Reform School Mystery"
No. The story was weak, predictable. Characters were shallow and one-dimensional.
Looks like the author was stretching out the story in anticipation of a book series to follow.
Not much modulation in her voice. Each character was not given a different sounding voice.
Not one i would watch.....it's really already been done in a couple of different ways.
No.
"Ok but SLOW"
I found this whole series slow to develop and slightly boring.
I think I bought into the series based on the review that compared it to twilight but it does not compare.
I did end up buying book 2 and 3 in hope that I would get some answers. I really couldn't believe how slow and drawn out the whole series was - I'm guessing there will be a book 4 but I will only listen if I can't find anything else.
"Weak ending but kept me listening"
Because I wanted to know what exactly was going on, I kept listening but the end, the payoff, was weak. The journey was entertaining but the "discovery" of what it was all about was disappointing. Good narrator and the first three fourths of the book was interesting enough to keep me listening but I won't read or listen to the next one.
"Not what you expect"
I kept on hoping something would happen right up until the end. I was very disappointed that the story has no real depth and very few characters have substance
"Looking forward to the next one"
I will have to admit that I was drawn by the cover art. The story was not a let down, I felt that the narrator was good. The story line was interesting although sometimes frustrating, and not in a "love angst" way. I am looking forward to the next one, and I believe that is the sign of a good book. I would recommend this one.
