Darkness on the Edge of Town

It's been some time since I have listened to this story so here goes. I truly struggle to think of a negative thing to say about this story: it is short so has to make every word count.I visualized pretty much everything I heard and when I am able to do that I know I have essentially been part of something really special.

If you like sci fi and mysteries, you will like this book. I would rank this story as one of the most enjoyable "reads" I have had. Eric Medler was more than able to assume the female voices without seeming petulant or whiny as some storys have had by other narrators and really, I think its as much vocal skill as plain physical limitation of the male voice to reach the female voice.

I definitely intend to listen to this story again. It's a fresh take on a "Twilight Zone" idea except, instead of dealing with one street, Brian takes an entire city into the darkness. This audiobook is so deserving of 10 stars!!!!

Depth! Eric breathes life into each character. I swear when he went "hood" I nearly lost my mind I laughed so hard. Brian made the story great but Eric made the story memorable.

I don't like answering questions like this. I wish audible would remove them. Such a "spoiler" move, Audible.

If you are a fan of horror fiction, thrillers, and suspense novels this book is a must!!!!!

This was a very well thought out story. Kept me guessing about what might be happening next. Cliff hanger ending as well.

Why do you need an evil force to coax people into behaving badly? You've plunged a whole town into an extremely stressful and terrifying situation, just let that be the driving force for their actions.

Characters just didn't seem real or believable. Made so much worse by the fact that their actions were being manipulated by a supernatural force. I can accept any situation as long as the characters are allowed to respond in what seems like a realistic fashion.

This is basically like Under the Dome by Stephen King except that the author has explicitly made every characters' reactions to the situation fake by design. Don't buy this book - get Under the Dome which is much, much better.

Two things disappointed me. My first problem with this book is that all throughout the author has no qualms about foul-mouthed characters and using the Lord's name in vain, over and over again. Okay, a little cussing I can deal with, but this was too much times a hundred.The second part that I didn't like is that the ending was definitely not satisfactory. I'm not going to be a spoiler here, so I'll just say that it seems as if the author is either setting up for a sequel, or just needed to hurry and find a way to end the book. He left too much of the book unanswered. I didn't like that.

I've never listened to Keene's books.

I think Eric Medler did an excellent job with the narration. His narration definitely helped bring the voices to life. I've never heard him before. I will check out and see what else he's narrated.

I didn't like the high school punk. I'm not sure, but I think they called him "T." I was hoping his character would die soon.

The book only cost me a buck.99, so, well, at least there's that. The story was interesting, but the bad language annoyed me all the way through, and the ending stunk.

Time well spent? Yes and no. It kept my interest enough to finish it. It was OK
