"My name—my True Name—is Ashallayn’darkmyr Tallyn. I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court. And I am dead to her. My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl…."
To cold faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the Winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.
Then Meghan Chase—a half human, half fey slip of a girl—smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the Iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.
With the unwelcome company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end—a quest to find a way to honor his vow to stand by Meghan’s side.
To survive in the Iron Realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. And along the way, Ash learns something that changes everything: a truth that challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice.

"Narrator is hot but his Ash voice... not so much"
Ash has lived a long time in the Nevernever but he is still young enough to be romantically involved with 16 yr old Meghan yet the narrator made Ash sound like a 40yr old man. I imagine it is creepy for a younger reader.
But I have to admit MacLeod Andrews has a sexy rumble to his voice. He is also very handsome. Every other character is spot on except... Grimalkin! Seriously!? How could Grim be ruined? Well, he sounds like a horny old man! He MOANS alot! Before and after everything he says he moans. Its gross. Grim is my favorite character but I cringe every time he spoke. The voice for Meghan in the other Iron King series does a perfect interpretation of him though.
Synopsis:
My name—my True Name—is Ashallayn’ darkmyr Tallyn. I am the last remaining son of Mab, Queen of the Unseelie Court. And I am dead to her. My fall began, as many stories do, with a girl…

With the unwelcome company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end—a quest to find a way to honor his vow to stand by Meghan's side.
To survive in the Iron Realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. And along the way Ash learns something that changes everything. "You might like this, if you liked Thomas Covenant"
Kagawa - not again. Andrews the narrator - sure.
Not if this is typical of her writing style and characters. I didn't care for the overall feeling of depression and moroseness which seemed (to me) to permeat the story. The prince's character just kept reminding me in way of Thomas covenant (the unbeliever series).
I ended up fast forwarding through chapters a number of times and wishing the story would get more interesting. I have not read any of the other books in the series and have no desire to do so now.
I wasn't thrilled with the narrator's versions of the characters but not sure how much of that is due to the book itself. I'd give the narrator another try.
For me - no. For those who've read the previous books, probably. It continues the story of Megan and Ash (sp?). Though 90% is about Ash and his personal issues.
Glad I got this one sale :)
"Great book !!!!!!!!"
This was a great book, I really hope that there will be another, the ending was kind of short and didn't really explain everything.
"Love the series"
I absolutely love the series. However, after listening to Khristine Hvam narrate the first 3 books. I had a hard time adjusting to MacLeod Andrews. I REALLY do not like the voice he has given Grimalkin. But still... a great series!
"meh..."
The voice ruined it for me :/ I HATE when characters switch voices especially pucks :(
No bring the girl back who played megans voice
No
"Ash's POV novel."
I enjoyed the break from Meghan Chase as narrator within the Iron Fey series.
I would have elminated a lot of Ash's internal brooding over which girl he'd ultimately choose. It was repetitive and useless because aside from expressing that he loved Ariella once - which we already knew at this point and had been well established in this novel as well - it was not really useful to the story and just made it drag on.
Ash's final trial to gain a soul is the best scene in this book because it is touching and actually made me tear up despite the general annoyance that I felt for Ash and Meghan's relationship and Ash in general throughout the series.
This seems very similar to the last question, but the OTHER scene that moved me was Ariella's sacrifice at the ensoullment ceremony.
This is almost the end of Meghan and Ash's journey. After this novel the only story left is Iron's Prophecy which links the Meghan Chase arc in the Ethan Chase arc - which begins in The Lost Prince - even more than it already is.
"Love it"
Love, redemption and wonderful
Ash gets a soul, he's relationship with Puck has gotten better and a happy ending.
The ending.
He will do anything to be with the one he loves.
"Lacks the whining which ruined the other books"
this book contains a much higher quality of writing the the rest of the books. The male narrative lacks much of the whining topics that were present and all but ruined the other books. I like the world created for this series. However, every time I would pick up a book I would quickly regret it. Once finished I would be determined not to finish the series. eventually I would pick up the next book on sale. This story was the first I didn't regret getting.
"Disappointing"
The first three of the Iron Fey books were enjoyable, moved at a quick pace and made for engaging listening experiences. Not to mention that the narrator of those books is outstanding. But now we're at book four. One that changes everything around, no longer coming from the perspective of the Megan Chase, the brave Iron Queen, we are now focused on Ash, the cold-hearted, nearly stoic Winter Prince. As a central character, Ash lacks the heart that carried Megan and the listeners/readers along.
I've always liked Ash as a character and I certainly want to like him more. His icy demeanor has been melting a little but that does tend to make it tricky sometimes. While I appreciated the story and the structure, it was some of the little things that drove me crazy. Sending the group through testing grounds that sounded like Indiana Jones and then having the characters say flat out that they seemed familiar, having Ash learn to use an iPad, etc. Those things weren't clever or funny, but instead irritating me as they seemed to be tongue in cheek that feel flat. Maybe I'm being overcritical but I can't wait for the book to be over so I can be done and move on. I just need to know what happens, because despite everything, I want to know what happens.
The narration is okay. I can't tell if the flatness of it is the character or the narrator but either way, the entire story falls flat when compared to the vibrancy of the other books. My advice? Stop at book three.
"Different when a man reads"
Great, good, read
not quite sure! Vampire series from a young woman that was a self puplisher
I love his voice and I have bought many books didn't know anything about the books but he has never let me down!
When the fox is holding the rock and he says I will be here when he come back through here. even though he is almost dieing. That hows many young to be honorable no matter what.
I have a great respect for how close this came to our dreams.
