Picture Perfect

I was so disappointed when I read this book. I am a huge fan of Jodi Picoult. I love how she gets us into the minds of her characters, and enables us to see things from their perspective. I can't believe she wrote this book. The topic -- spouse abuse -- is one I would expect her to handle. But it might as well have been a Harlequin novel. So shallow. I ordered it, despite the bad reviews, because the main character is an anthropologist. I'm an anthropologist. I thought, if nothing else, that would make it interesting. It didn't. It's as if she took one anthropology class, and didn't do all that well in it. If you love Jodi Pocoult, avoid this book!

I am a HUGE Jodi Picoult fan & eagerly anticipate & read all her novels. Imagine my surprise when I found myself listening to a book that much more closely resembled Danielle Steele than Jodi Picoult & I am NOT a Steele fan.
You'll find none of Picoult's typically beautiful storytelling & well thought out prose. The book is choppy, inconsistant & just silly.
I read everything-I love books. I love audiobooks. A book has to especially bad for me to denegrate it. This one is.

This is quite a bland story overall, the author tries to augment it slightly with some Native American tales now and then that ultimately doesn't quite blend in. Rather than adding character to the story, it just seems misplaced and borders on being ridiculous. All of the characters are one dimensional and by the end I cared very little about what happened to them, there was no reason to bond or empathise with any of them. In conclusion, I'd probably say it's one of her worst pieces of fiction. Definitely not up to Jodi Picoult's usual high standard of storytelling.

I am a huge Judy Picoult fan, but I honestly do not think I can even finish this book. The writing is choppy. The characters are not developed in the way I expect from this author. At first, I thought it was just the narrator, but no...it is is everything together. I am very disappointed.

I've listened (visually impaired) to so many of Jodi Picoult's books and loved every one until now. The narrator has a most monotonous voice. Add the run on phrasing style of narration and wow, not enjoyable at all. I'm not so sure I can finish this one. Please try a sample before you buy. So sad.

I have listened to many of Jodi Picoult's novels, and a few of them have been very enjoyable (My Sister's Keeper, to name one), but this one was horrible. I would like to think that she was early in her career and hadn't hit her stride yet, but several of the latter novels have left me unimpressed, as well. I don't typically review books, but this was such a waste of a credit, I was compelled to.

I had read all of Jodi Picoult's other books, and had been avoiding this one due to the bad reviews on here. But I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. I really enjoyed it. Picoult's amazing talent is evident in this book. I really don't think she's capable of writing anything bad. This isn't my favorite one of hers, but I liked it very much.

After 3 hours, I am finally giving up on this book. First time I have ever been disappointed with Jodi Picoult - one of my favorite authors. I will still read everything she writes in the future.

I could not finish this book, and I was so looking forward to it, thinking wow, Jodi Picoult deals with amnesia. But the entire time I was reading I kept thinking "Harlequin Romance" and then I read all the reviews that said the exact same thing. This is one time I forgot to read the reviews first, as I always go for a Picoult because she seldom disappoints. This is one case where I should've listened to the advance warnings. The story is all too trite, and the "heart throb" syndrome of mega movie star throwing around his cash meets intellectual, spartan-lifestyle anthropologist is just too shallow and dated.

A half breed Indian goes from the reservation to LA as a policeman. He finds a woman who has a problem remembering who she is. Her actor husband eventually comes to her. This is how the main characters come together.

The marriage begins to show the listener is abusive. That is the main theme...how does a smart woman end up in such a situation? Why does she stay? Will she ever leave it? Will the Indian cop help her escape? Can she stay away from her abuser?
