Cream Puff Murder: A Hannah Swensen Mystery

After reading other reviews of this book. I think that the others were perhaps a bit to harsh. I really enjoyed the book. It wasn't deep or particularly earth shattering, however it was a pleasant story and exactly what I was looking for when I downloaded the book. The story was a bit of a cream puff itself. Light and fluffy, with little substance, but delicious for a hot summer afternoon on the beach.

I will agree that the recipes were a little distracting, but it is easy to skip past. Actually I would have liked to have a text file with the book with the said recipes. I don't think the recipes within the book were distracting enough to take away from the overall book! Quit being so snobby, and enjoy light reading for what it is!

I have read all of her books and this one doesn't disappoint. Although I am not all that interested in the recipes, I like that it is what sets her books apart and adds to their interest. I like the reader and feel like I know the characters. To me if I can picture what the characters look like, then the author has done their job. The mysteries are cute and keep me interested.

What a writer, with mystery, food, romance all rolled into one book, I read and I get hungry.

The Hannah Swensen series is entertaining and enjoyable. At first the recipes were off-putting to me and then I realized I'd listen when I was interested or tune them out if I wasn't. I listen to audio books when I'm running and when I'm falling asleep (instead of TV). Two different venues I know, but I can be entertained by the book without having to concentrate. Very relaxing to me!

I was looking forward to finding a new mystery series and was disappointed by what I found. Usually a reader expects to get the detective and the case in the first few chapters, but the murder doesn't even happen until the 10th chapter. Character development wasn't strong or believable. I was most interested in some of the recipes...

this book what can i say it was boring long and had receipes in between why would u have receipes its audio i didn't want to listen that plust the charcters seem stupid i didn't enjoy this book i hope the author will read nora roberts or james patterson and see how a real murder mystory should be

I did not listen to this book for very long. The story was very slow to get going and too much time was spent on cookies receipes. If I had wanted to learn how to make Potato Pancakes and all the toppings I would of looked in a Cookbook!

I chose this book because of a sale, and because I needed something to take my mind off of the theory-filled books I read for work. I wasn't expecting much, and wasn't disappointed.

I haven't read any of Fluke's other books, and I probably won't after this. The recipes, while interesting, break up the storyline and are distracting. The characters are two-dimensional and don't invite involvement from the audience at all.

While the narrator, Suzanne Toren, has a lovely voice, the first half of the book was lacking in character delineation. There weren't any accent changes or vocal inflections to show character change. I couldn't tell who was saying what for a good part of the beginning of the book. And speaking of accents: this takes place in a small town in Minnesota with many life-long residents -- but not one Minnesotan accent among them? Not believable.

This was by far one of the stupidest books I have ever had to sit through, in fact I ended up just turning it off about half way through because I was so disgusted.The only thing I could think of while listening was how I could have better spent $24 bucks.I bought this book hoping it would be whimsical and clever. What I got was an ear full of literary junk and wallet with 24 less dollars. And if you do by some mental inspiration decide to spend two dozen benjamins on this book don't be surprised when all the sudden it jumps from "...OH MY GOD she ate my cream puff!" to "...add four sticks of butter, three cups of sugar, 2 lbs of Crisco..." because just when you think it couldn't get any worse she starts throwing in cookie recipes. If you want a GOOD mystery, spend your money on Dean Koontz or Kathy Reichs. NOT JOANNE FLUKE.

This is the first Joanne Fluke book I have listened to and it will probably be the last. Very slow, the characters are two dimensional and the dialog very unbelievable.
