"A sleek, romantic comedy." (Publishers Weekly)
When I clean, drive or exercise I listen to romance. The steamier the better but it must have a great story as well!
"Classic Susan Elizabeth Philips"
What I love about Susan Elizabeth Phillips is that you are guaranteed a story that is charming, funny and sexy. She has a great way of making the reader feel like they are in the story. This book was entertaining and great to listen to. This book is the first in the "Chicago Stars" series. I listened to them out of order but each story can stand on its own. It was good however, to where it all started. Phoebe is such full of life yet lacks confidence due to her bad history with men. I think many women can relate in one way or another with her story. This was a heartwarming enchanting story and I would list it as one of my favorites by this author.
"Romance & Football - Somehow it works..."
The plot is predictable, but the narration is excellent (Anna Field never disappoints) and the romance is quite...um, effective. A fun, frolicking story about a dysfunctional family, an evil cousin, a woman battling childhood abuse to come into her own in the middle of the most unlikely environment: the locker room of a football team fighting their way to the Superbowl. The romance is well written and well read. Not high literary material, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
"Wonderful, delightful, chuckle out loud"
Loved this book from the very beginning. Shortly after "meeting" Dan Calebow, I never could seem to get the picture of Matthew Mcconnaughey out of my mind, so there he stayed, as Dan, for the entire time I listened to Anna Fields' excellent narration. It was a fun romp (and there were several descriptive "romps") and, as usual, great character development.
"Awesome Listen!"
This was the first SEP book I listened to. The book was hilarious and her characters are all so great. I have since downloaded most of her Chicago Stars books (all but 1 - havent gotten around to it yet). I love the narrator and all her voices. The stories are engaging and funny and full of love. I've read 2 of her books and listened to most of them...they're all lighthearted and a great way to pass time whether youre driving in traffic, doing chores, or working out. It will definitely keep you smiling and sometimes have you bursting out laughing. It doesnt get dull, and sometimes you feel that familiar tug on your heart strings that we readers/listeners of romance or chick lit novels love! I recommend you download the books in order. This is the first book of her Chicago Stars series. They dont need to be read/heard in order, but its more fun that way since she introduces the characters that she uses in her next book in the one prior to it. The next book is titled Heaven Texas in case anyone is wondering.
"One of SEP' top two books ever!"
I have listened to this book a number of times, and it never disappoints. I adore the main characters, and this is a fantastic start to Phillips Chicago Stars series. I hope she continues it!
I've become a sucker for Audible. I love audiobooks, to the point of addiction. Especially a good romance audiobook... :)
"Good story!! Cute, silly and sexy."
I wasnt into the football thing and stayed away from SEP for a while. I finally got around to listening to this book and was completely charmed by it. A lot of fun.

"Change of heart"
Didn't read the print version, loved the audio version
When Phoebe was mistaken for Dan's ex-wife at the beginning of an intimate fantasy.
Phoebe
Phoebe, because she has a depth that most people wouldn't take the time to get to know. Once again , the outer package doesn't match the person's heart.
As with many audio books, the narrator makes the difference between a good listen and a poor one. Ms. Fields was one of the best in the business and her loss is greatly mourned. With this series of books ( and I would recommend these to everyone) you might start out disliking the male character as a sexist idiot, but in the end , you grow to love the man they become. I have listened to this series several times and will listen to it again and again.
"Dan and Phoebe are great"
This is one of my favorite romances, and it sets the foundation for the whole Star series. Try to read the books in order because it really enhances the enjoyment for the series.
Dan and Phoebe's love story is so good that I find myself rereading this whole series. It is such luscious escape. The best part is each book is just as good as the previous one. S.E.P.'s writing is funny, heart warming with great characterization. If you like romances, this one is an all time winner. And the voice of
Anna Fields that was so much associated with S. E. P 's books so sadly has been quieted. Truly a great talent was lost when Ms. Fields tragically died.
"Can't Go Wrong Here!"
I am a big fan of Susan Elizabeth Phillps. Found the first book just by chance and have loved four more since - this being #5. Funny, romantic and this one has a bit of of mystery to it too. I love that her books has real people and not all are rich, powerful and beautiful. Even those that are aren't perfect. If you like SEP books, especially those surrounding the "Chicago Stars", this is a real winner.
"Refreshingly Different..."
Even though it was written over a decade ago, this is still a refreshingly different kind of romance novel. Phoebe is unlike any heroine I've read about before or since and she taught me a lot about how we categorize people based on very limited information. Kudos to Susan Elizabeth Phillips for creating a character and a situation that was so wholly unexpected and a lot of fun to read.
