"Boring Conversation, Unappealing Characters"
I don't understand all the rave reviews of this book. It is filled with pure conversation that leads nowhere, about trivial, non-plot-driving matters. Much conversation and description about antiques, furniture, buildings. The main character, Wheezie, is totally unappealing as are the other characters. The narrator does their southern accents in a way that makes them sound like African-Americans when many of them are supposed to be quintessentially wasp. Nauseating would be an appropriate adjective here.
"Can't say enough good things about this one..."
HOME RUN!!! Mary Kay Andrews always does a great job.....I've listened to this, probably 5 times in the past three months....it's a great "feel good, make ya smile" easy listen...makes me want to hop in the car and head back to Savannah....
"One of my favorites . . ."
I really enjoy most of Mary Kay Andrews books. Savannah Blues was the first one I read and is at the top of the list, along with Summer Rental. It's one of those - woman starting over after her life falls apart - my favorite kind of story. Very enjoyable!
"CHARMING, WITTY, DELIGHTFUL"
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! DID NOT WANT IT TO END.
The narrator was excellent. I had loved "Fixer Upper" and listened to it 3 times. I will probably do the same for this.
It is definitely worth the credit.
I just wish her earlier books were not abridged.
"Usually enjoy MKA Books - not this one..."
Yes, to Mary Kay Andrews - NO to Susan Ericksen. Poor choice of narrator.
No.
She is not the normal quality for this book - Isabel Keating does a much better job. It was drab and uninteresting. All the characters started to sound alike.
No.
It lacked anything to keep me wanting more. Really not a strong story line at all. Boring descriptions of antiques and houses with no real story to keep you going. I kept tuning out.
Much Better books -
Summer Rental
Hissy Fit
The Fixer Upper
These were very hard to "turn off".
"Easy, fun listen!"
This was my first Mary Kay Andrews book, and I LOVED it! I am a big fan of The Help, and this was a great southern book with great characters and twists and turns to keep you listening.
I LOVE to listen to audiobooks - the Audible ap is by far the best thing that's ever happend to my iPhone.
"Delightful"
This is the 2nd MKA book I've listened to, and I really enjoyed it. The story line flowed well, and the "who done it" question was there right up to the end. I loved the narrator and believed she captured the character's Southern charm perfectly.
I would recommend this book.
"BEBE AND WEEZIE"
BEBE AND WEEZIE
I WANT MORE BOOKS WITH BEBE AND WEEZIE, THEY ARE GREAT, I LOVE THEM AND WILL BUY ANY BOOK WITH THEM IN IT.
"Fun story!"
This was my first Susan Erickson performance and I loved it. She held my interest and made the story fun to listen to. She really brought the characters to life.
"Great listen!"
Loved the narration and author. Please write more books Mary Kay with Susan as your narrator! I like books based on the South and books that include history about antiques and old houses. Have listened to this book more than once!
