Francis Sherman and Anna Demilio want only a vaccine, but to find it, they must cross a countryside in ruins, dodging not only the infected, but also the lawless living. The bulk of the storm has passed over the world, leaving echoing thunder and softly drifting ashes. But for the survivors, the peril remains, and the search for a cure is just beginning...

"The strain continues, for now."
The Morningstar trilogy continues with Thunder and Ashes. I found this book to be as good as, if not better than the first. Unfortunately, shortly after finishing this book I learned the author, Z. A. Recht, has passed away. There was some doubt about whether the trilogy would be finished, but his website says a ghost writer was brought in to finish the series. It should be out late 2011. Here's to hoping it is as good as the first two.
RIP ZA
"Love the concept"
If you can get past his ignorance of the military the book is great. Story line is one of my favorites. after reading the first book, i had to get the second. I hope the third one will be release.
God rest Z's sole.
"SHTF now!! This series keeps getting better!!"
This book 2 is great! I love how book 1 starts from all these different places around the globe and now they are all on the same journey to the same location. And they have to get thru a new world of survivalist, raiders, hordes of zombies, and a secret goverment agents. (spoiler alerts now)
From when they have to decide to get off the submarine and march across the US from Oregon to Omaha. The small town of survivors they meet and the special ops mission they go on to save a mechanics daughter in order to get their truck fixed so they can continue on there way to Omaha. That was the best part of this book.
So go out and get this series. Start with Book 1. Book 3 will be out in June or July!!
"Loved it!"
I really loved this novel. Although its a zombie book, it really is more of an action/suspense story. All the characters like Sherman, Styles, etc. are really entertaining. I particularly like Sherman. The world of Morningstar is very believable. I recommend this novel to those who enjoy action stories featuring military characters and those who like post-apocalyptic fiction. I'm only disappointed it is over.
"Loved it"
Unlike book 1, I found this book exciting. Not that part one was bad, but rather slow. This book was simple fantastic, well written and it kept me on the edge of the chair. It was very easy to follow, even if you don't hear book 1, which I did not finish. You will not make a mistake by listening to this book, you'll feel the blood rush under your skin.
"Awesome!!"
Great continuation of the first book! Really engaging story, great narrator, enjoyable listen. A must for zombie fans.
"One of the best in zombie genre"
Enjoyable, good, & scary.
I can't pick between them all, they are all necessary to the story
I have not, but I am impressed by his skill. Other people lack the skill that Mr. Wyman possesses, he does Z. A. Recht justice. More often then not, the person voicing the characters (along with the story) will determine how much the readers will enjoy and tolerate. Mr. Wyman does a phenominal job at giving each character his/her personality and voice throughout the story.
I laughed a few times at the wit and remarks made by Brewster and some others, mainly Brewster though.
In the past three months I've read about five or six other zombie books (okay, I've listened). Without a doubt The Morning Star Strain series is one of the best. So good, I'm going to post it to my facebook as a recommended read. Once you get past Suez the real fun and danger begins.
You follow General Sherman and Dr. Dimillio on their race for a vaccination; that's right, not a cure, but a vaccination. As if the dead aren't enough they are plagued by raiders and over-zealous bureaucratic agents. Along the way they meet interesting and courageous people. General Sherman goes so far as to help a small town fight off a horde of infected, as well as raiders who continuously harass the quiet and tired people.
I’ve read books 1 and 2, eagerly anticipating book 3.
i am a 27 year old male. i got into audible because i love to listen to them at work. I like zombies, survival, and fantasy, game of thrones
"Can we get book 3 yet?"
i never read the print version but i cant believe it gets much better.
I can't pick any one part, but if i have to chose i would say the very end when you find out that there is an immune person to morning star, but that parts the best only because it is so fresh in my mind.
i haven't but i would be interested to listen because how well it went.
the death of the reporter. :( broke my heart.
i think of myself as a zombie elitist and i hate when zombies are portrayed in a poor manner. ( zombies do not talk or want brains in my opinion) but this book series is one of the best that i have herd so far. If you are familiar with the day by day series, then you will like this book series as well.
"Another Enjoyable Listen!"
This book was just as good as the first one, in my opinion. This book starts with action and just keeps going. I have some issues with some of the decisions made by some of the characters - such as not having an escape plan during an assault - but overall the book kept my attention and left me wanting for more! I was very happy to find out that the family decide to allow a Ghost Writer to finish off the trilogy. Hopefully Zack had great notes and the writing style won't be drastically different.
"Zombies + Infected = Genius"
Z.A. I love how you have merged Romero style shamblers with 28 days later Infected, brilliant. I can't wait to read book three: Suvivors hurry. Also i fully expect at least two more books from other survior's p.o.v., and maybe set a few years later. Thanks a ton Recht, and to the rest of you, buy this book.
