Publisher's Summary

The Bhagavad Gita is a gem so precious in India's spiritual treasury that many regard it not as a volume of sacred verse, but as a living manifestation of the Divine. In the summer of 1974, inside a balmy Boulder, Colorado, warehouse that served as a main hall of a fledgling Naropa Institute, some say a minor miracle occured: The reawakening of the Gita's living presence, as it unfolded in a series of wisdom teachings led by Ram Dass. With Love, Service, Devotion, and the Ultimate Surrender, you are invited to experience these legendary gatherings.

    "Oh....Ram Das!"

My favorite listen during my recent battle with the flu was 12 hrs of Ram Das explaining the Bhagavad Gita. (Recorded in 1974) I like the part in the Gita where Ram Das and Timothy Leary get fired from Harvard for ordering a half million dollars of LSD for research. Feeling much better now- Namaste, Granmonkie

    "WOW!!! AMEN"
Would you consider the audio edition of Love, Service, Devotion, and the Ultimate Surrender to be better than the print version?

I don't have the print version. I came across the words Bhagavad Gita in a little book entitled God's Psychology written by a Catholic priest. I loved the book so much that I bought a lot of copies and gave them to friends. I was in my 30's then 30+ years later here comes Ram Dass (I first heard his name from Wayne Dyer) explaining it so eloquently with his wit and humor. I'm ever so grateful, thank you, RAM DASS!!!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Love, Service, Devotion, and the Ultimate Surrender?

There were so many, he was able to explain, intertwine and correlate religions in a very clear and powerful way. I am a Catholic and remain so and feel that I am more enlightened and have a deep, abiding respect for other religions which I have been reading and exploring of late. Imagine understanding Christ better through Ram Dass! Bottom line is it is the essence of a man that counts and our attachments to the trappings of the different labels we try to live up to are meaningless. Here is a man with compassion, heart and devotion to what he believes in and shows it through action.

What insight do you think you’ll apply from Love, Service, Devotion, and the Ultimate Surrender?

We are all connected to each other, the love of God binds us all and we should all realize that and do our part to make the world a better place.

    "Wow!!! An American mystic."

Ram Dass delivers from his heart the path to Consciousness, God and Love. Having followed a spiritual journey for many years it was delightful to find in a 1974 recording a history that somewhat parallels my journey and it's many twists and turns. In 1974 I would have thought he was out to lunch, not knowing that in 2011 I would love to be lunching with him discussing this path. I especially love knowing that he simply taught and was not invested in Ego's rewards or worried about what the future would bring. This is a treasure, read in his own young, strong voice. Namaste

    "Bhagavad Gita for Everyone"

Recorded in 1974, this book provides a fascinating look back at Ram Dass, and it serves to show us why he was, and still is, such a popular spiritual leader. His tone is casual, he spins stories as though he was hanging out with a group of friends at a cafe (or even a bar), and he gently guides the listener through many of the most important messages in the Gita, a book that can be pretty intimidating at best. This is one of the finest spiritual pieces I ever did hear (or read).

    "Fantastic"

This is an amazing audiobook of Ram Dass' lectures at Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado back in the late 70s. It is a mix of Buddhist teaching, Hindu teachings and Christian teachings. Fantastic, but be warned, Ram Dass was a Harvard Professor with Timothy Leary and talks quite a bit about his experiences with psychedelics.
