Between dodging the bullets of the gang members who are infuriated by Alex's most recent courtroom victory and keeping a rendezvous with a charming restaurateur, a serial killer on the loose is the last thing she needs on her plate right now. Then a third victim is found, and it becomes clear to Alex and her team that time is not on their side.
Through Alex's peerless interrogation skills - and one big break - the search becomes focused on someone who has a twisted obsession with the military. And things grow increasingly dangerous when the chase leads to a chain of small, abandoned islands around New York harbor.
Once again, Linda Fairstein brilliantly orchestrates a mix of cutting-edge legal issues and forensics, New York City history, and spine-tingling suspense. And at the center of it all is Alex Cooper: stunning, single-minded, accomplished, and not to be trifled with, whether she's in or out of a courtroom.

"One of the best crime writers in fiction today." (Nelson DeMille)
"Fairstein...makes the legal issues more exciting than any high-speed chase." (New York Times)
"Simply addicting!"
I've only read the last few books in the Alex Cooper series, but I've become addicted and this latest book doesn't disappoint. If you like this series, you'll like this book.
"Great story....so so reader"
I love the Alex Cooper series, but Bernadette Dunne doesn't do the book justice. Was Barbara Rosenblat otherwise engaged when this was released? Seriously, Ms. Dunne can't vary her voice to match the characters...you really have to listen carefully to figure out when one character stops talking and another one starts. Other than that, I enjoyed the story. Typically, I learned something else about the Big Apple that I didn't know before I read one of Ms. Fairstein's books. As a New Yorker, born and breed, I really love that aspect of her books.
Over the road truck driver and an avid fan of audiobooks.
"HORRIBLE reader ... Buyer BEWARE"
If you want to listen to Barbara Rosenblat suck cough drops and swallow her saliva and gasp for breath during every pause; by all means feel free to waste a credit on this book.
It was so annoying that I stopped listening after 10 minutes.
While I love Linda Fairstein, and ordered her entire "Alex Cooper" series, the reader makes it impossible to listen to them.
Sorry to have wasted my $$$ and credits.
