In One Dance with a Duke, the first novel in Tessa Dare's delightful new trilogy, secrets and scandals tempt the irresistible rogues of the Stud Club to gamble everything for love.
A handsome and reclusive horse breeder, Spencer Dumarque, the fourth Duke of Morland, is a member of the exclusive Stud Club, an organization so select it has only 10 members - yet membership is attainable to anyone with luck. And Spencer has plenty of it, along with an obsession with a prize horse, a dark secret, and, now, a reputation as the dashing "Duke of Midnight". Each evening he selects one lady for a breathtaking midnight waltz. But none of the women catch his interest, and nobody ever bests the duke - until Lady Amelia d'Orsay tries her luck.
In a moment of desperation, the unconventional beauty claims the duke's dance and unwittingly steals his heart. When Amelia demands that Spencer forgive her scapegrace brother's debts, she never imagines that her game of wits and words will lead to breathless passion and a steamy proposal. Still, Spencer is a man of mystery, perhaps connected to the shocking murder of the Stud Club's founder. Will Amelia lose her heart in this reckless wager - or win everlasting love?

"Horsing around in Historical Romance"
Definitely, I loved this book, and the very intriguing male characters.
I Loved the fact the Duke spent a lot of his youth time in Canada, and the description he gives of that time. I'm Canadian, so it's nice to hear nice things about your country.
I loved her voice, she gave such an emotional performance. When she was lecturing the Duke ( very Funny) or when she was trying to help her brother (very vulnerable)
Yes, I felt myself trying to sneek a quick listen at work..It wasn't easy!
I really can't wait for Bellemy's story.

"GOOD STORY - VERY CREDIT WORTHY"
Great start to a trilogy series. I thought the story was most entertaining but I thought the narrator sounded very young for the story. However, I did get into her voice the longer I listened to her because I liked the plot so much.
Will download the other books in the series but I hope they use a different narrator.
“I love all genres of books, however when I listen to audio books as I clean, garden, drive they are better with a lot of heat!
"Great romance"
I did enjoy the telling of "One Dance With a Duke." For those of us who enjoy the occasional romance, this was a lovely story and telling. I will admit that even I was slightly annoyed by the main characters constant "misunderstanding" of her love interested, but overall enjoyed the story and would recommend it to other readers who enjoy a light-hearted romance. I think I will continue with the series.
"Typical Romance"

"One DAnce with a Duke"
the narrator
THe psychological problem of the the duke - phobia with noise and crowds.
too schoolgirlish - immature
the narrator spoilt it
"A wonderful romance!"
The writer is very witty and has a great way of expressing herself. Her characters are intelligent and the story has twists and turns that keeps the reader interested. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone looking for a page turner!
"Why didn't I know about Tessa Dare?"
I have listened to, and read, tons of historical romance novels by lots of different authors. I can't believe this is the first Tessa Dare book I've been exposed to. It had a real story. The heroine, Amelia, is smart and witty and loving. Her hero, Spencer, is handsome, brooding and fiercely enamoured of Amelia, much to his own surprise.
The narration, by Leslie Bellaire, was spot on. I was a little hesitant at first. Ms Bellaire sounds very young. But her narration was perfect for this book.
I wait with anticipation for Audible to obtain more of Tessa Dare's books.
This is my first review. But I felt so strongly positive about this book that I wanted to tell others of my experience. Take a chance on authors you might not be familiar with. You might sometimes suffer disappointment. You won't, however, be disappointed with this book.
"THIS WAS A SURPRISE"
I bought this from the sale page and didn't listen to it for a few weeks...sorry I didn't!!! This book was surprisingly good with strong female characters and a few twists from the normal. Worth the listen!!
I love to read! With kids, that hobby is impossible...enter Audible...problem solved. Chores that I dread are now quiet time for this Mommy!!!
"Credit Worthy Romance :)"
This title has been in my wishlist for a while and I ended up obtaining it through one of those "Surprise..$4.95" sales that show up every now and then.
I am glad that I took a chance on this. The hero was just yummy...he saw her...and then he had to have her! I loved that. The heroine was a bit annyoingly simple minded when it came to her milk sop/wastrel of a brother. I kinda wanted to smack her in the face a few times, but I appreciated her loyalty to her family. I thought that the author did a great job of keeping me enganged and drawn into the plot. I am hoping that we get the rest of the trilogy as I am interested in the other two male members of the stud club.
I agree with the other reviewers about the narrator. She wan't awful, but there was very little change between her male and female voices. I didn't have an issue listening to her because I too was enjoying the plot.
Worth the 4.95 I paid for the book, and I would spend a credit for the story alone.
"Different in a good way"
?
It's hard to compare since this storyline was unique
A little much on the accent and formality
When she asked the duke to dance
