Robert Ludlum's The Bourne Betrayal

I was hoping for the intrigue and clever plot from past Bourne adventures, but Jason Bourne has reverted to a comic book style character in very familiar story lines. Jason is still the lethal, lone-wolf super spy. He is fluent in a multitude of unusual languages and has countless expert skills that would take a dozen lifetimes to acquire. He withstands relentless near death beatings, from which he is able to recover with minor medical care and and an enourmous effort of will. Jason must contend with an evil and clever foe, double agents, an intelligence comunity that does not appreciate his talents, and a government bogged down in inertia. Jason must save the United States from calamity using only his boundless ingenuity and the help of a very few and clever friends, but the clock is ticking ... While I do not want to give away the plot, this reminded me of the old James Bond novels and movies. I know this is a common plot, but I had hoped for something more original.

I remember 2 summers ago I read the first 3 books - I just could not get enough. I was hoping to feel the same about this one but not even close. This is writing a book knowing suckers like me won't be able to resist because they miss Jason so much and want to catch up with an old friend.

Having listened to each of the previous Ludlum books available, I was eager to "read" the latest, even before reading a listener review. After slogging through the first 3 hours (which is all I could bear), all I can say is "What a huge disappointment on all fronts". The reader is no Scott Brick and the constant background sound effects are annoying. My guess is that the effects were inserted to try to distract the listener from the poor quality of the story and its telling. What happened to Ludlum's legacy?????

I bought this hurriedly thinking is was a real Ludlum book. While I was entertained, the plot was even more unbelieveable than usual - more Bond than Bourne - and while Ludlum is not the world best writer (he's pretty good) this book borrowed the character but not much more. Don't bother with Jaw's III in other words

Cartoonish,Stupid Plot.Should be a kids internet game,not a novel.The Bourne Identity was bad enough.I hope no movie is made of this,more a waste of money.I had to try to get through it three times and gave up.

Ok, so the first of the new series was AMAZING. This was almost as good. I had a few problems with parts of the plot, I just don't know that they could get away with some of it. It reminded me a little to much of Mission Impossible. It was still a good read...er listen.

This was an excellent job, by both the author and narrator. Story was edge of your seat thriller that did not stop for a moment.
The story line kept you hanging on every word trying to guess what was coming next.
You will race through this audio book in record time, because you won't want to turn it off. The narrator made each character come to life. The author wrote a story that was not only belivable, but very full of suspense and action. Sound effects were great! Buy this one, you won't be disappointed. Unless you don't like action books.
Very good job, to all involved in this production.

This was probley one of the best books I have read in a while. It was very well written and read and fast action as I have seen in the Bourne movies. So if you what a fast action good reading book then this is for you.

First Rate! Keeps you guessing through the whole story while providing a crackling story that one can hardly stop listening to.

This story was mostly nonstop action, but with a storyline that has been used many times in the past. There was a slight shift from the norm but nothing really new. I was definitely conflicted in my view of this story. It was a good story, but some parts were so farfetched it made it hard to believe. However if you like action and a main character that can't be killed this is the story for you. It really did keep me coming back for more. Some books are just bad and you drop them like a rock, but this story had enough good parts to it that it keep me on the hook
